One doctor suggested that for the road rash, I let it "dry out". This is actually very old wisdom for injuries like this. A scab is your enemy as it will crack and cause additional scarring. You want to keep the cuts moist. The dermatologist I went to for a second opinion told me this. He said, Aquaphor for the lighter scrapes (all the time, four times a day) to keep it moist and Duoderm patches for the really deep stuff. Duoderm patches are normally for burns and very deep cuts that don't heal well - in some cases my understanding is that they are used for diabetic patients who have trouble healing. It was used in between doctor visits for an open wound my husband acquired.
