Very strong reception even antenna is not mounted on the pole, just placed it inside the attic on top of the insulation. ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX lowest signal are 82. Read more

If you put this antenna on a roof and have an ATSC QAM tuner in you television, you are GOOD TO GO FOR HI DEFINITION programs on the Southeast side of Chicago. You will get 14 digital channels and STUNNING HI DEFINITION programming. You will also get about 24 analog programs. It is so good, some people will drop cable or satellite, because FREE TV IS BACK. This "digital" thing coming in 2009 is changing the name of the tv game. Free tv is now an alternate to cable or satellite bills. Buy a Radio Shack "Gold" transformer for this antenna. Toss the one in the box. Read more

We bought this VU-90 35 years ago, before cable, before satellite, probably before you were even born. Once cable TV came into the neighborhood, about 22 years ago, we subscribed and left this antenna up there on a mast strapped to our chimney not doing anything. It has been hit by lightning and elements bent by Hurricane Hugo.
Last year we purchased a very nice Samsung HDTV. After replacing the 300 ohm – 75 ohm converter on the antenna (it was a mess) , moving the antenna to a location closer to the TV, we have the most incredible picture on local Hi Def signals. We still enjoy cable and all it has to offer but when the Race or the Game is on local ABC, CBS, FOX or PBS in High Definition we hit the “antenna” button on the remote.
Bottom line this is an excellent antenna, bulletproof, and will last beyond your grey years.
Any “old antenna”, not just the VU-90, needs to be pointed at the transmitting tower for the best High Definition signal strength. Good Luck.. eddie Read more

        Pulls in HD Channels Fine

Easy to setup. You assemble it using bolts and wing nuts. No special tools needed. A wrench is needed to tighten the nuts on the U-shaped bolt to a mast. A 7/16 in wrench, adjustable wrench, or pliars works fine.
I live in Brooklyn NY, about 8-10 miles SSW of the Empire State Building from where most commercial TV channels are broadcast. The antenna pulls in a strong signal on VHF and many UHF stations. It does a fine job of pulling in digital broadcasts now, even before the mid February 2009 change.
A mast is not included in the box, nor any mounting brackets. These must be purchased separately. Read more

I live in Palm bay, FL about 54 miles south east from all of the Orlando transmission towers. My house is pretty much surrounded by 50ft pine trees, no other obstructions. I mounted it on the roof, about 25 feet off the ground, for best reception and it was SUPER EASY to set up. Did research on antennaweb.org to find out exactly where to point, etc... I get every analog and digital channel available in the direction it's pointing(2, 2.1, 6, 6.1, 9, 9.1, 15.1, 18, 18.1, 24, 24.1, 35, 35.1, 43, 46, 52, 53, 65, 68, 68.1) and some other ones that aren't even listed on antennaweb.org Very pleased with it's performance, would recommend to anyone like me who is a good distance from the towers. My only concern is hurricanes, I would most likely take it down and stick it temporarily in my attic if any heavy winds are predicted, but that would be the case with any roof mounted antenna. If you are still hesitating, JUST BUY IT! Read more
