Useful in getting vinyl that I didn't or couldn't replace with DVDs into iTunes, and in that way, makes those albums 'new again'.
What's great is that it is a stand-alone turntable that has its own little speakers and does not have to be hooked up to either my stereo system OR my computer to work. Just plug in a flash drive or an SD card and play the record.
What isn't as great is that 1)You discover on your own that you need to turn the Auto Stop off. Otherwise every record you record gets the end messed up, because the turntable literally grinds to a halt in the middle of the final song. Until you figure this out, you think you have a faulty unit on your hands. (And this is true of BOTH albums and 45s.)
2) It's too hard to do each song of a full-length album separately--the way the owner's manual directs you to do, because it's too hard to manually put the needle down manually just right between tracks every time. (There is a cheap fix for this last problem. You can record a whole

Best Christmas Ever

I purchased this record player for my father. The man has an incredible old jazz vinyl collection and limited computer knowledge. I purchased him years back a product that allowed you to plug your turntable into your computer, but it left too much for him to figure out with the software, so he never used it. This christmas we nailed it! The turntable is soo easy to use! Everything is done on board and there is no editing on a computer involved! We spent the whole night listening and converting some of his old jazz LPs and even his old motown 45's to mp3. Now every week i receive a new mix cd of obscure jazz ( some that never made it to any other form other than vinyl ) from my old man! It's probably the best gift he's ever received, and he is totally hooked on it! Im thinking about getting one for myself as well! Read more

While this is a great way to get my vinyl onto the iPod the drawback is there is no pressure adjustment for the arm so skipping can be a problem. I used the manual to add the extra weight when I need it - so it really is good for something. The downside is the extra wear on the needle :(
Once I have the files (recording the whole side in a single file - don't even bother trying their stop and start suggestion) I use Acoustica Spin It Again to clean it and create the individual tracks - together they work quite well. Read more

Manual insufficient - but tips here

        Bruce
        from
        NY

So its super easy to set up and use. Turns vinyl tracks into MP3s instantly. Downside - have to record each track on your LP one at a time. Manual says push the record button to stop the recording and then push it fast again to start recording the next track. UNTRUE. You have to hit the record button TWICE to begin recording the next track. WHen I did that it worked fine.

Also, I tried to create a folder on the mem stick and then record the track. It failed and read error (manual has no trouble shooting section - shame on you guys). It turns out you can't create folders on your mem stick. You have to let the machine do it for you and then when transferring it to your computer you can then create your own folders (I assume so - have not tried yet).

Lastly you can record at different bit rates. The mannual does not say so but the higher the bit rate the more detailed is the recording (more data). Richer sound but picks up more scratches and take up more space on your computer.

This is a great little invention. There was so much music I had tucked away in record boxes that have since come to life. Very easy to operate and transfer music...music that could not be found or downloaded from the internet...just don't forget to flip the switch on the back of the unit so it does not stop before the end of the record. I have also found that if you want to record albums and you are quick enough, you can hit the record button 3 times between tracks and it will separate them..but you have to be quick Read more
