After looking at many different models and being discouraged by most of them, I was finally directed toward the Technica Pro 88W wireless lav and receiver. I was skeptical of the price, after seeing so many other wireless sets often in the $1,000s, but did the research and trusted a close friend's opinion.

I snagged it up and used the set in a shoot the weekend I received it in the mail. I couldn't be happier. It has clear reception, ease of use and it's portable and lightweight enough that there were absolutely no troubles using it on the set.

My only hesitation from giving this 5 stars is 2 things: the fact that it comes with a mini to mini cable instead of XLR and the cut off for high sounds. I had to buy an additional Mini to XLR cable for my camera, although the price for that cable was substantially less than expected. We were shooting with this unit and our actor did a light scream and it peaked and cut off, taking a few seconds to regain normalcy. I would think if

Is this the best wireless lav mic set in the world? No. Is it plenty good enough for short-range interviews (within 30 feet of my lens) and other voice recording? Totally.

I own a spendy UHF wireless lav set that is not only about to be made obsolete by the FCC, but is also so delicate that I'm afraid to use it on most of my news or low-cost commercial shoots for fear of it getting damaged. So I'm now buying a third (essentially backup) Pro-88W set.

I often double-lav by hanging two of the receivers on my Canon XH-A1. And sometimes I plug a hand mic into one of the xmtrs (using an XLR-miniplug cord) so my interviewer has "room to roam." I have also been known to velcro a pair of 88-Pro xmtrs to mic stands, hook my good Nady music mics to them, and thereby get nice stereo when recording live concerts without any underfoot cord hassles. I lose a bit of audio bandwidth at the top end this way, but not enough that even my pickiest clients seem to notice.

One thing -- and thi

This is my first wireless mic purchase for video, and I must say I've been very pleased. My primary application is using this mic for sports commentators. The camera is placed at half field/court and my commentators can be doing play-by-play commentary from anywhere in the area. I've had very minimal trouble with interference, I've actually only heard a slight hiss once and I just moved the antenna and it went away immediately. I use a simple splitter, along with two ATR35s lapels - one clipped to each commentator and it works great - good mix of voice and ambient/crowd noise. No complaints! Read more

Affordable option for capturing quality audio using a prosumer camcorder.

Too new to comment on durability, it has so far done everything I hoped for.

Easy to use right away (and I'm no genius, believe me!). Don't quite see why some have reported dissatisfaction with them. Read more

Excellent audio quality. I use it with a Canon HF-200 HD video camera for video interviews. Great isolation from surrounding noise. Comes with all the cords needed to connect to a video camera as well as some velcro strips so you can attached the receiver to a camera or tripod. Even though this is a mono device the output cable uses a stereo mini jack so audio is captured to left and right tracks on stereo gear. Easy to setup and use. Read more
