At about 500 watts they start to lose their power. I would say they about average in sound but they are tough and never give up. I had two Peaveys that were rated at 500 watts program and at about 600 watts they blew. They are not tough at all. These speakers were playing at 800 watts and sounded just slightly below average. They are really tough and can handle anything. If you can afford JBL's go with those. The Yamaha's appeared to look good but they souded very bad. At 400 watts they started to sound weird. I was at a large hall so I needed some more bass. At 500 the woofer blew. I was so mad.
