I have been using thermo electric coolers for about 4 years and now I will NEVER go back. I purchacsed this product 1-1-08 and the first week that I had it I broke the 12v power supply cord, that is the only bad thing I have to say about this product. It works better than I ever expected. It's as easy as set the temp and let it do it's thing. The comperssor only kicks on maybe 2 times an hour so running it off of a 12v power source would probably last for days with the engine off. I purchased this unit for a 4x4 trip on the Rubicon trail, where ice is not available. Most of the others had either the ARB or Engle fridges that cost $700-$900.My buddies ARB ran his battery down, my Edgestar ran all week, did not tax my battery, kept food cool and I even turned the therostat colder to cool warm beer. Beer was cool in about 20 minutes or so. All food stayed fresh, the entire trip. Holds a lot more then anticpated. Extremely quiet..Also the display of temp is better the the ARB or Engle.Great value and many folks asked about it on the trail. Read more

I bought this for use in my RV (long road trips as a freezer to supplement existing fridge) and van (short road trips as a fridge). I was going to buy an Engel or Grundfoss and decided to take a flyer on this relatively no-name option. Very glad I did. It will run overnight off the regular battery in the van without making a noticeable difference in the battery's charge. Very efficient! As efficient as the big names? Pretty comfortable saying yes, although I haven't run a controlled experiment to verify it. Huge capacity for the price. Very well built (metal cabinet with plastic edge guards) and performs well. It's much less finicky about tilt % than the fridge in my RV. I expect years of efficient and reliable service while being shuffled from vehicle to vehicle and being abused by my family. This is a very nice unit that costs about half what most of the competition out there does. It is just the right size, not too big or too small and will work well in most SUV's out there. I have taken it out in my 4x4 and did a fair amount of steep hills and off camber situations and it never missed a beat. I also went through a few spots a little faster then I should have and heard some of the contents bouncing around inside but the unit kept cooling without any issues. I also like that when I move between the 120v AC and 12v DC, the temp setting stays where I set it. I don't need to worry about it resetting. About the only negative I found was the latch doesn't "pull" the lid tight, like you would think it should. You can get a little (like an 1/8" at the latch) movement but with the wide seal, it doesn't seem to allow any cold air out.
