I run a videography company and use this microphone with my Sony HVR-A1U camcorder. It's a fantastic microphone for wedding and event videography, especially considering its size -- barely 7" in total length. The A1U itself is a small camera so this mic looks right at home in the mount, and the clarity of audio with this device is equal to that of my longer, more expensive ATR897.

Can't hear any camera hum or noise operation of the mic itself; this thing picks up only what's going on around it, not what's going on inside it. Just be sure you use a high-grade XLR cable with it; I tried using an old 25' XLR cord I had lying around and the reception was terrible! Once I hooked up a 3' high-caliber cord, everything was as it should be.

Only downside, and this is through no fault of the microphone itself, is that it's a little too small in diameter to fit comfortably into the included XLR adapter; I had to wrap a strip of rubber around the base, but this is no impediment to audi

This is my favorite of every mic I've ever purchased. It's perfect for on-camera use. Sometimes I think the audio sounds better than a lav. In certain situations it's hard to tell the difference. Read more

I used this to replace the on-board mic for my XH-A1. Although I don't have too much experience with sound, I can tell the quality of sound from this shotgun is far superior to the on-board mic. I purchased this because I wanted something compact to use all the time so the camera will still fit in my case without removing the mic. Read more

I give this mic a "4" simply because I don't know enough about audio "black magic" in order to give it a technical 5. I have several shotgun on camera mics and I wish I had bought this one first. The sound quality is great, it has a great pickup pattern, and I love the fact that it's short, fits nicely in a camera bag, and isn't distracting for the subject. Read more
