The TV, which we have sitting in an entertainment center, appears to be front heavy. If a small child were to pull on it, it could come crashing down on top of him. I intend to hollow out the back of the entertainment center in order to push the TV further back.

The picture quality is just okay. Writing on the screen, e.g. CNN headlines at bottom of the screen, appears a little hazy. However, the overall viewing quality is satisfactory.

If you want a 27" CRT, I think this the only model available, and it is a lot less expensive than TV's possessing more current technologies. Read more

I was looking for a TV to put into a second bedroom in our vacation home in Florida. The room would be used for children as well as adults. I wanted a set that the kids could easily hook up their games and this set is perfect. Very nice picture and sound quality. Outputs in front and back very easy to use. For $200 this TV is a real bargin and I feel will hold up well. Also, this set will pick up digital signals when analog goes away, for those who don't have cable. I was worried about a flat screen around children and would definitely recommend this TV to anyone who wants a low cost option from the flat screens out there. Read more

I purchased this for my senior parents when their old 27" console TV failed. They wanted a traditional replacement. I was reluctant to buy this when I could see the obvious difference in picture definition when it was sitting next to the high definition LCDS at the store. I realized that it actually has a good picture when I got it home and hooked it up. I could see a definite improved picture quality over all the other older tube type TVs in the family.
The digital tuner is excellent at pulling in the broadcast channels that are near the end of their range using a rooftop antenna. It is doing much better than the convertor box did with their old TV which would fade to frozen pixals quite frequently. This TV tuner maintains strong constant video when its working with an antenna.
The only con I see is that this model does not have the automatic brightness and color control that previous name brand tube TVs had before they all started going to the new LCD design. Darkness level is not id

Our old 27" CRT Sony TV was over 10 years old, and the picture was starting to darken (irksome during dark scenes). We couldn't afford an equivalent size HDTV, and were not convinced that the viewing experience was truly superior--certainly not enough to justify the $500 price difference. I picked out the Sansui 27" SDTV based on a Google search, and picked it up at the local Sears store (saving a lot on shipping). Setup was a cinch--just transferred the main cable and DVD player wires from the old to the new TV. The set is heavy--maybe 50lbs--but once in place that's not an issue. After about 1 month of use, my wife and I are generally satisfied and are donating the old TV to charity. The picture is crystal clear, colors are vivid (but not garish like some HDTVs), the remote is small and easy to use. The sound quality is acceptable, but nothing to brag about. I would not trade it for the same size HDTV, especially for viewing standard ratio (rather than picture box) programming, since

This TV is not recommended for connection to an analog cable box because the TV must convert the analog signal to digital before displaying the actual picture on the TV screen. This extra processing step results in a "lag" which creates a "slight blur" during scene changes and/or movement (e.g. people walking, cars moving, etc.). Also, black and white movies/shows appear to have a distinct green tint (e.g. low-light misadjustment) and this misadjustment also affects how colors are reproduced during a color broadcast (e.g. creating bright but unnatural colors). This misadjustment may be intended by the manufacturer to create more brilliant colors; however, for those that like a green bottle to be green, may be disappointed when the bottle color is reproduced as turquoise.
However, on the positive side it does have a digital tuner and it should be capable of receiving "over the air digital signals in the near future." A final word of caution about using a cable box with this set is that
