We began using this at 7 months (brush only) then added the toothpaste part at about 9 months (or as recommended by your pediatrician.) Baby likes it enough to make a game of it. Very soft but effective. Paste tastes good. Durable. Have even given this as a gift for new moms! I have been using this product since the recommended age (3 months) and although she was hesitant about the flavor at first, we now use it twice a day without any problems. At almost 5 months now, she knows when to open her mouth, and giggles when I use it.
