I daily go to unfamiliar towns throughout New England. I demand most for my $. I must have traffic reports to avoid delays. I must be able to give clients an accurate time of arrival. Tried Garmin & Magellan however they either had expensive traffic report options or required cell phone to get reports only to find their bluetooth didn't sync with my LG popular phone. Tried Navigon 7100 for 9 months, I tried hard to like it (a lot of features), but poor tech. & customer support pushed me away. Navigon screen sensitivity, country road routing and non- highway ETA all bad. I sent Navigon weekly emails of suggestions only to get automated replies telling me of all their awards. After 9 months they finally send me an email admitting they had uncorrected issues still present after a May update. Of course it looks like all corrections will be in new model 7200 soon to be released. All the other units weaknesses are Sony 83T strengths plus it has all the "high end / luxury" features. With th

I'm using 3-year-old Garmin iQue3600 and looking for a newer GPS unit. Accidentally I ordered Sony NV-U83T and just received it 2 days ago. Unfortunately the unit is far below my expectation.

First of all, the menu arrange is not reasonable. When you press the Menu botton, you can see several icons (tabs) at bottom, which are compass, cabinet, briefcase, and return. In campass, the choices are Enter Address, Find a Place, Take Me Home, and My Places. In cabinet, the choices are Phone (operation), and Traffic Information. In briefcase, the choices are Route Planning, Address Book, General (setting), Map (setting), Route Profile, Guide (setting), Traffic Information, Phone (setting). Ok, can anyone tell me what's the relationship between those icons and actual related sub-menu? Those icons seem to be trivial.

Second, after it got signal, it showed the place I'm at. Good, but why I only see street lines around the neighborhood, but no street name on the map. If you zoom out a little

Squint at a your tiny Garmin GPS if you want, but I won't...
'cause my SONY NV-U83T has an almost 5" screen. Works great.
Much better mapping than TOM TOM. GPS engine is fast, and
when satellites are temporarily hard to see, navigation continues
with a doppler/inertial-like, gyro-based technology that backs up the
GPS system- SONY's exclusive POSITION PLUS. Becomes my
handsfree phone via Bluetooth, interfaced flawlessly with my
cell phone. Don't listen to the Garminites, they just don't know
any better. The SONY NV-U83T is the cold nuts. <a href="http://www.buzzillions.com/reviews/sony-nv-u83t-4-8-portable-navigation-system-reviews#bz-model-review-2957267">Read more</a>

I was almost ready to agree with "Edward GPS guru" but then I remembered R.T.F.M. joke... I had bought this a unit a week ago in [...], NJ. My definition of a perfect navigation system:- Allows many ways to find the destination and actually finds it!- Calculates the most efficient directions taking into consideration all possible navigation settings and traffic an-route.- Has smart, intuitive menu options.- Quick location of GPS signal and "fast heart-beat" of the processor (keeps current location in smooth movement, not like in a slow cartoon).- Solid mounting on any surface under any angle. Most of what "Edward GPS guru" described in his opinion is correct. However, for accuracy sake I must say that I did find the option to stop "automatic zoom". ProsHas very solid mounting mechanism. Easy mounting and dismounting. Very large bright screen with night display option, which is split in two windows when approaching intersection. Touch screen scrolling of the map – very convenient option

My wife and I just returned from a 3,100 mile driving vacation from Ohio to Georgia and Florida and back to Ohio.

Before our trip, I called the Sony customer service phone number and emailed the Sony Style website regarding purchasing a second mounting base for the NVU83T so we could use it in our two vehicles. The sticky mounting base is not intended to be moved on a weekly basis. Both Sony sites refrerred me to each other but each eventually said the mounting base wasn't available as an accessory. Other GPS manufacturers such as Garmin and Magellan sell their mounting bases/cradles as accessories.

Using the NVU83T is frustrating compared to other GPS's I've used. When inputting destination data such as the city of "SARASOTA", the keyboard does not gray out those values not found in its database. The Sony NVU83T requires you to input every character correctly or you get a "Not Found" error when you click on the Done button to start the search.

The routing of all GPS's is
