This addition to the outdated concept of Guitar Hero is awesome. I am a drummer/guitarist and though this game doesn't actually teach you how to play guitar, I think that the drumming portion would be a great practice for any aspiring drummer. It helps with basic beats and even moves to some more intermediate timings and movements.
+
The only downside that I have found to this specific machine is that after a few months of playing on it, the response becomes a little laggy. It becomes necessary to hit the pads hard, rather than lightly in order to successfully gain a hit. This isn't a big deal exempting the parts of the game where precision and speed become essential.
+
Another thing is that, don't know if this is specific only to my drum set or to all of them, but my bass drum pedal sticks a little, it's not that accurate either. I can hit right on the mark and sometimes, it doesn't register. I imagine that is why the new one for RB2 is designed differently.

While the Rock Band game is by far my favorite game for my PS3 (play it atleast 3 days a week), the instruments leave a lot to be desired.
The drum kit - this review - is poorly designed and made. Harmonix has supposedly fixed all of the problems with the first generation of RockBand 1 drum kits with the release of the Rock Band 2 drums. My problems have now occured twice...I apparently am good at hitting the yellow pad too hard repeatedly. By doing this I have cracked the plastic under the rubber pad twice now.
Also, with the second kit there was something wrong with the controller where the foot pedal just stopped work in the middle of songs. If I hit the yellow pad hard, the foot peddle would respond again. How about that, I broke the yellow pad again.
If you break your drum kit, the smartest thing you can do is to buy the extended warranty on the newly purchased one from bestbuy. If the drum kit breaks within the time frame of the warranty they will replace it free of charge. I'm t

This is a good thing to buy if you just want two drum sets. I recommend the durm pad silencers that they make it makes the game alot more fun...[$] Read more

For those Reason users that would like to have more freedom when making ur beats, the rockband drumkit can be a great help. I dont have the game, I actually only use this drum kit to use it with Reason 4.0

No problems so far. There's a bit of latency to it, but hey, for less than $90 dols ur getting a great midi controller. Read more

You finally can replace that beat up drum kit you've used on the 58 song setlist with a standalone replacement drum set without having to buy the whole package. Unfortunately for those wanting to just get drums and the software this is not for you, as the game will cost you extra. Read more
