I bought this to hook up 2 speakers, my TV, game consoles and computer. It has so far been very amusing in terms of all of the connections I can accomplish. It's easy to use, the controls and features are directly stated and are easy to understand. IT IS iPOD AND BLUETOOTH Audio compatible which is awesome.

On top of all this, it supports HDMI ports and is equivalent to a 7.1 in many ways with the exception of those extra channels in 7.1

The only limitation I found was the lack of individual controls for adjusting the treble and bass at different frequencies. Read more

I was very pleased at all the features available for the price. Right now, it's handling a DVD player with upconverting through HDMI, satellite system with HD through HDMI, and an Apple TV through component cables. My one disappointment was that audio via HDMI will only pass through. In other words, if you connect a DVD player via HDMI to the receiver, the audio will bypass the receiver and be played through the TV. The way around that is to use an additional optical audio cable, in addition to the HDMI (HDMI for video, optical audio for sound). All-in-all, I'm very pleased with the sound quality! Read more

Well, this is my first Yamaha receiver and I am NOT disappointed at all! My 5 year old Onkyo 5.1 receiver gave up and is in the repair shop, so I decided to "upgrade" to a new receiver with ipod jack & HDMI pass-thru. Now, you still need to run an audio cable with the HDMI (coax/optical) but that's ok. Seriously, this receiver is STRONG. 100 watts X 5 is very powerful. My old Onkyo was 75 watts X 5, and believe me, this Yamaha receiver is CLEANER & STRONGER.
I would recommend this receiver to ANYONE with a medium to large size room. My room is 22x16 and it is plenty of power for my living room. I think it would be "over kill" for a small room.
There is an "optional" ipod hookup with bluetooth capability to run your ipod with the remote ($99), but the ipod works just fine in the AUX JACK in the front of the receiver (with a $5.00 cable).
Hook up was fairly simple for someone who has patience, but for first timers.......receivers can be tricky. The manual was clear and well written, so j

        Tired of Program Volume Spiking

I have been using a Onkyo 5.1 Channel Receiver to provide audio for my large HD LCD TV. My problem was the 'volume' levels would spike within a desired volume level on the receiver and suddenly blast my wife out of her office in the adjoining room. I therefore wanted to replace my Onkyo receiver with a Yamaha that had the 'continuous volume control' feature. Although the Yamaha still allows some volume spiking (especially when commercials phase into a TV program) the volume spiking seems less severe. I've had Yamaha receivers before and this one is just as impressive for the [$] that I paid for it. Read more
