I have a theater room and my equipment is hidden in a closet. I found this at best buy, and gave it a try. NOW YES, THE reviewers here are correct the IR range is terrible no more than 5 feet away from the remote to work, HOWEVER THIS CAN BE FIXED EASILY!...You must open up the IR Transmitter unit carefully (DONT OPEN THE IR RECEIVER THERE IS NO NEED TO). Inside you will see a goldish squared shape wires within a silver transmitter. Carefully cut that out as it is blocking the IR sensor. Then put it back together and bam, i can get all my remotes to work from 35ft from all angle of the IR Transmitter. Problem Fixed!! Now you have one of the best IR transmitter on the market without spending hundreds of dollars. Not sure why the engineeres left the wire mesh there. I gave it 4 stars because you have to do some modification yourself to make it work great. Read more

It works to deliver the signal as long as the remote control is 1" from the receiver. I took the receiver apart, cut the foil, that helped, but not great. Then I noticed the little receiver thing was tucked inside the metal box too far, so I pried it up. Ok now it works ok, but as soon as I put the plastic back on, nothing. So now I have a circuit board with an antenna laying there, and the range works ok. Seems like it'd be better to buy anything other than this product. I think it'd be easier to train my dog to change the channels. Read more

I thought at first batteries in remote were bad. Put a fresh set in and still only got around 5 ft. in plain view of transmitter and receiver. Read "improve" post below and modified. Now 28 ft. on next room and works great! Internal design does need to be redesigned. I would really like to know what t hat screen was for. Read more

I notice the same thing most reviewers state, poor transmitter performance unless you hold your IR remote very close. I split the case open, cut the tiny wire screen that seems to block the IR receiver, bingo, range is excellent, you would think the manufacturer would change the design? when every review states poor reception and this fixes it? No matter what I tried I could not get this thing to work unless I was standing in one particular spot about 5' away from the transmitter. The receiver was directly above the ceiling and literally less then 4' away from the transmitter. I even tried the IR extender but no dice. The problem seemed to be with the transmitter that receives the signal from the remote control not having any range. I even replaced the batteries in the remote but no change occured. I am not sure why BestBuy still carries this thing with all the bad reviews. It sure gave me my share of headaches. I purchased the MasterControl 8-function Learing Remost RFS100. We'll see how it works. The price was about 2.5 x as much but the reviews are all good on that one. We'll see. Read more
