I bought two of these because the price was so cheap (24.95) and Toshiba is a reliable brand name. It is not something I would use in my main theater room but for the back bedrooms it works great!

Great dvd player for use with standard def tv.
Also great with receiver and stereo speakers.
This does pretty good though playing standard dvds...especially for the price.
If you have a high def tv and a nice surround sound system, I would recommend a higher end dvd player.

I recently purchased a Toshiba DVD recorder from ABT. As I am very happy with the recorder, I decided to buy a Toshiba DVD player, so that I can watch one DVD while recording another. I am very disappointed with the Toshiba SD-4000 player. Despite the fact that the recorder and player are both brand new units from the same manufacturer the remote and the menus are as different as can be.Whenever you get a new recorder there are always new features that you did not have before and there is always a favorite feature or two that you had before that is missing. However, with all the new features that they put on, they left off something that is extremely basic.Whenever I turn it off (or even if it turns off by itself, after twenty minutes of inactivity), when I turn it back on it always starts at the beginning of the disk. According to their own instruction manual this should not happen. Toshiba’s Technical Support Department contradicts their own instruction manual and states “If you power the unit down (either manually or automatically) the unit will not save the current location.” I have never had a DVD Player that did not resume at the point it was stopped under normal circumstances.

Toshiba SD4000 Progressive Scan DVD Player
    Jan 1 2008

I purchased this DVD player for my daughter for Christmas. It arrived within 3 days of placing the order. The player is extremely easy to hook up and use. I had absolutely no problems.
The picture quality is excellent and the players capabilities are more than adequate as a primary or secondary unit in the home. It could have more bells and whistles but I really can't imagine why they would be needed. It does everything expected and does it well. For the money I could never complain. Even if the market warranted a hire price it would be worth it.
Happily a high quality player is available for such a reasonable price.

Product is used daily great picture, all the bells and whistles work. I would advise purchase of this product if you are looking for an inexpensive dvd player that has a great picture and has a nice look to it's design. If it holds up it's a bargin for [$].
