"I was impressed with the units styling and design when I first opened the box. I thought the small screen size would be a liability but it is adequate for all personal picture and video viewing. It is really a mini-computer with its own operating system, internal memory and hard drive to store your media files.
Pros - holds all the photos, mp3 audio and sufficient number of video files to keep you entertained and back-up your photos for the duration of most any travelling you may do. Photos and video look great (under normal indoor lighting or at night) even on the little screen (4.5" isn't much larger than the preview screen on some of the larger digital camera) but being able to zoom into the photo and navigate the "blown up" screen image makes up for this.
Cons - Like most LCD screens its not very bright in brightly lit areas (outdoors or in the car in bright sunlight) making it difficult to see unless you shade the screen carefully. Audio amp is not as powerful as the one built into my old iPod for music listening and the built-in EQ is also limited. The unit is WI-FI ready but requires purchasing one or more "plug-ins" to be fully functional if you want to "surf the net". Extreemly flexible unit but requires a lot of operator interaction, just like a computer would.
One other area of concern - it has the ability of viewing PDF files but is extreemly slow in advancing from one page to the next in multi-page documents. I wish it had something more like Adobe Reader built in for navigating pdf manuals or books. Also powering down the unit sometimes causes it to "lock-up" requiring a reset to get it to shut off or boot-up once again. Although the unit is engineered well, it is a delicate instrument and will not hold up well to abuse. I would imagine being knocked around and dropped could eventually cause the unit to fail, (hard drives and LCD screens are fragile) so some measure of care in handling and protecting it from shock would be prudent.
In summary, I'm very happy with the unit - but wish it didn't require all these plug-ins to be fully functional."
