"I bought this for my 12 y.o. son for Christmas. I preloaded songs on to the memory so he would have something to listen to immediately. I will admit that you have to have some savvy to this type of thing to be able to get it to work correctly. You basically have to find the port that it is located in and open it up, then drop and drag music into the file. Mine was easy because I have USB ports on the front of my computer, then I could just open up "My Computer" and click on the drive for the port. Then it was just drag and drop the music files that I had. I will admit that I have a big name brand mp3 player too and after using it, this is a little more difficult but no more annoying than all the extra stuff itunes makes you download to use their site."
