Best Uses
"I travel over 40,000 Interstate highway miles a year. Though I don't try to be a speed demon, I push the edge (10 to 15 MPH over posted highway speed) to save some driving time. I had a Bel 965 prior to the Bel 995. It worked great, but it was stolen out of my vehicle. This 995 is just like the 965, except on steroids! I picked up a NC Highway Patrols KA band radar 4.5 miles before I ever saw him. The sensitivity to KA and K bands are unreal. It does a great job of weeding out X band false alarms. Out of curiosity, I left it turned on (but out of sight) while traveling through Virginia (where it's illegal). It picked up every state and county patrol radar I came across, without being detected by their RDD (radar detector detector). I'm assuming they were using VG and not the newest systems. I would not recommend normal use of this unit in Virginia, unless you are really on top of things. It does a great job in the city as well. It picks up every police radar blocks before I encounter the car itself. I haven't run across any lasar yet, so I can't comment on that. Unless you want to spend the money on a Bel STI Driver (which is hidden to ALL types of RDD), I would say this is the best radar detector money can buy. Between the 965 and 995 I have been using the Bel detectors for almost three years, and I have absolutely no negative issues with either the 965 or 995. It mounts very easily on the windshield. After a while the suction cups wear out, but can be easily replaced inexpensively by the cups you can buy at a craft shop. Hope this helps!"
