"I am close to giving it a 5; it's almost perfect. I had the same model in white for about 3-4 years. I believe it is pretty durable. Recently, though, it fell in the kitchen and in trying to put a part back together, I broke the mechanism on the lid. I looked at many other models when I needed to replace mine, and this one still came up the best, for price, efficiency and design. I'm very happy with it. I love the glossy black finish; I almost bought the stainless steel version, but decided it was not worth the extra $20 and frankly, the black is just gorgeous. I understand it also is made in a blue color, but I couldn't find the blue version at any retailer. The outer casing stays cool to the touch, although the area directly surrounding the water becomes quite warm when the water has boiled - but not enough to cause a burn.
As others have remarked, it is somewhat noisy, but not offensively so. Even so, it works quickly every time and it holds a great deal of water. You can boil a little or a lot, depending on your needs. For 2-3 cups, it is very quick. I often shut it off before it reaches boiling point and the water is still hot. A great way to save time and gas or electricity for cooking by using it to heat water for pasta or other uses, and then pouring the water into the pot on the stove. I always use filtered water, never tap, to keep it clean. It's a reasonable price, looks beautiful and most importantly, does what it is supposed to do. No more ruined kettles burnt out on the stove. Although the kettle is not specifically insulated, it does manage to retain heat for some time and you can quickly boil warm water by turning it on again. There's no beep or anything to let you know it is done; a single beep would be an improvement for future kettles. But if you are nearby, you can tell by the lack of noise and/or time passed that it is done. The only other improvement would be better insultation, but that would just be the cherry on top. It does well as is. Better than all of the others, as far as I can tell, and very reliable. JR delivered it very quickly, as they always do, and it was priced competitively."
