Digimon Digivice Data Link Gao-Blue - - Bandai Review
Super Informative
"I'm an 18 year old female, and a long time fan of digimon since Adventure was airing back in '99. I flipped my lid when I found this at my local toy store.
It fits well in your hand, though it might feel a little cramped when holding it like a gameboy to play the mini games.
When you start the digital device you choose from three partners: Agumon, Gaomon, or Lalamon. Once you select your monster, you must 'scan' your hand at the top of the device. This aspect of the game is the only part that I've found might confuse younger children. When you are scanning, you must press the center button, 'B' button, while you do so or else the scanning will fail. I had my hand on the top of the thing for five minutes before I hit the button by accident and learned what needed to be done.
The game play otherwise is rather straightforward. In a typical virtual pet style, you cycle through different menus that include such things as feeding, cleaning, training, and of course, as is expected with digimon, battling.
You can battle in an arena on your own as well as battle monsters from the series during missions. During battle you can power up and evolve to make yourself stronger and more likely to win.
One thing I like is that you can 'pause' the game, so that you don't get mission calls and other such things while the user is asleep, out, or in school (like me!).
Overall this is a great product. While the instructions are helpful for the most part, they did not completely explain how to start the device, and might confuse some of the younger players. The background has two curved black lines that are a little distracting to me, but might not be so to others. The pixels are also very dull upon start up, though they can be darkened, or lightened even further, in an option menu.
Oh, and this is great for both sexes! The descriptions online say 'boys' can battle monsters...no way! Great for fans of virtual pets and especially long time fans of digimon!"
