"Two weekends ago I went mountain biking in Tahoe. There, you can take the chair lift up the North Star slopes and bike down. Easy and fun, no hills. "Family Friendly" said the guidebook. Not so much. 3 minutes into the ride I was over the handlebars with a broken jaw, a broken elbow and a pretty nasty case of road rash all over my face. It was pretty grim. One doctor suggested that for the road rash, I let it "dry out". This is actually very old wisdom for injuries like this. A scab is your enemy as it will crack and cause additional scarring. You want to keep the cuts moist. The dermatologist I went to for a second opinion told me this. He said, Aquaphor for the lighter scrapes (all the time, four times a day) to keep it moist and Duoderm patches for the really deep stuff. Duoderm patches are normally for burns and very deep cuts that don't heal well - in some cases my understanding is that they are used for diabetic patients who have trouble healing. In any case, despite being alarmingly expensive (I got a pack of 5() 4" by 4" patches for [$] they are worth it, especially for areas like your face. Plus you can cut them to size and don't need to be changed daily. I have a very deep cut on my chin, which took most of the impact and it is covered in a Duoderm patch as I write this. It's already improving. You can shower in it as well. I would say they're even more helpful for larger cuts that are oozing onto your pants if say you have a bad road rash on your legs or whatever. You only need to remove it every couple days, another benefit and it doesn't stick to the cut. They are somewhat hard to put onto my chin and a little odd looking. Someone asked if I'd had a skin graft thinking this weird flesh coloured bandage was actually transplanted skin, but you won't need to wear it forever just a week or two and it's worth it for not scarring. The downside is they are hard to find. Online might be your best bet. I tried the[...] and neither had it. Maybe a hospital pharmacy might stock them as they may deal with more serious burns at a hospital."
