Garmin Mapsource 24K Topo National Parks Review

"I have been using Garmin products since the GPS system became available to civilians. This is the best mapping product that I have ever used. The inaccuracy problems of the 100K maps have been eliminated. I tested this product in Rocky Mountain National Park and western Boulder County. I hiked up Twin Sisters Peak (7.4 miles RT, 2338 ft gain), once with the 2009 version of the 100K software and again with this software. With the 100K, I was usually located 300 to 500 feet off of the trail. With 24K software, I was shown to be within a few feet of the trail for the entire hike (both hikes were in May 2009 and both days had good satellite geometry). The trails and roads are up to date unlike other maps which are as much as 50 years out of date. Many trails which were missing on previous maps are now shown accurately. There are a few errors, but nothing like the previous maps. I have not tried urban navigating, but based on the detail provided by this software, I think that it should work well (depending on the GPS model used). Bottom line: if the 24K software is available for your area, buy it, and, as always, carry a map and compass for backup."
