Get Motivated Business Seminar Review
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
"I just got back from the seminar, and all opinions expressed are those of my own, although I try to be unbiased. I truly went in with an open mind, but am not a fool for marketing gimmicks.
Feel free to copy & paste this to various sites.
1) If you pay for tickets, you are paying for a marathon advertisement.
The speakers are scheduled between credible and peddlers. If you're smart enough to see that you're getting marketed to (in the vein of the most convincing infomercials), you're realize it 10 minutes in. If you're not adept at this, you'll love the entire event - so wear comfy 2pants and enjoy! For the rest of you, it will be excruciating at times.
2) If you have an aversion to advertising, do NOT go.
I cannot stress this enough. You will be constantly marketed to. Get over it before you go.
3) I was very appreciative of the speakers with integrity.
Terry Bradshaw, Colin Powell, Rudi Giuliani, Zig Ziglar and Krish Dhanam truly had much to offer in terms of personal love/faith/encouragement/motivation. I appreciated each of them.
It is unfortunate that this event is ANYTHING BUT speakers like this.
You can tell when people are selling experiences or peddling products. The peddlers had some interesting insights, but nothing I couldn't find on Google after a few minutes.
4) You will be surprised with how many people are duped into signing away their credit cards at the shows. Honestly, just blown away by it.
People just don't understand that an item marketed for $2000 marked "down" to $49 - Is only worth $49!
You can't sell a racing horse as a racing horse if it has a broken leg.
And even on that note, it's rarely for YOUR benefit. These people are out to make money, they're salespeople. Get that understood. Many (if not all) of the "great deals" are loss leaders for them... to have you sign up for further products/services.
5) I am making no claims on the integrity of the "buy more!" presentations. I'm sure some of them are valid. I'm sure others are scams. I'm sure they're both wrapped up in pretty packages.
When people are in a frustrating place, I believe they turn to the closest thing that makes sense. Unfortunately, in this economy, it means some business people that are ready to hand over their credit card numbers without appropriate stewardship of their banking accounts. Do your research.
6) I am a dedicated but open-minded Christian. Yet, I did not find the Christian message to be overbearing.
However, I am very suspicious of the integrity of the Christian claims behind their organization. It was downright silly at times.
This would turn more people away from the loving message of Christianity in my opinion. No one is going to find it beneficial to have a middle aged lady "rap" in an ebonic accent about her beliefs. In no situation will that ever be acceptable.
On the other hand were the speakers with actual integrity. When they touched on their personal faiths, it was tasteful and welcome. See names above.
7) If you have a 'BS' detector, it will be flaring at full force during the entire presentation.
The above woman seemed to be acting off of a hidden script that she's performed countless times with audiences. Upon initiating her "rap", she excitedly asked the audience, "Well, do you want to hear it? Do you?!!" Dead silence. "Well... Alright then! Here we go!"
There were multiple moments like this. Odd.
Don't blame it on the message, blame it on the messenger.
Also questionable was a claim that the wife, the co-founder, stated: they started this business with nothing when she was 23.
Oddly enough, 3 hours earlier on the intro video it stated that her husband made "millions" by age 22. He wasn't happy enough with money and wanted to make a difference.
It certainly didn't seem they were very far apart in age.
8) I have not been creeped out by such unnecessary fluff in my life.
You know that feeling you get when you go to an 'educational event' and find out it's a cult? Or when a friend markets a pyramid scheme to you that he got sucked into blindly? Or the feeling you get when you're at a seminar and everyone is so excited to meet a business leader so much they're wetting the floor?
Or can imagine the excitement of someone that orders products from every infomercial they see, 10 minutes in?
Those exemplify the worst parts about this thing.
9) Here is a recap of the marketing 'opportunities':
Phil Town - Likeable personality. But half in you'll realize he's selling. I did some research on him and it seems like he genuinely believes in what he's selling, and seems to reach out to those that question it. Just google his name. However, the product is comprised of Stock tools you can find elsewhere for free (albeit not as quickly), or on his recommended site for $600/year (plus expensive trainings). His concept of stock trading is called Swing Trading. Do a wiki on it and "MACD".
Tamara Lowe - She wants you to buy her book on "Motivational DNA". She may have a unique take on it... but I doubt it. It seems they've just swindled existing personality profiling tools such as DISC profiles and Myers-Briggs.
Earl Mindell - The health expert. Just do some research on him. I don't need to go into this.
Other mindless marketings...
A website tool that will make you thousands. Honestly cheap looking stuff you could get on Yahoo Pages - but with analysis tools so you can "reverse search" what people are looking for! Oh dear.
James Smith - How to make thousands from good purchases.. DEA sales... real estate turn overs... etc. Offers a $40 'training'. Seems to have good review on rip-off report. Decide for yourself.
I can't remember the others. My brain is so numb, and I hope I've been a bit helpful.
I've tried to represent my opinions only. This is not meant as slander as there were genuinely some great moments as well as frustrating ones.
I'm sure this is a great thing for a lot of people.
I really enjoyed the speakers I mentioned above. I've tried not to make claims on the validity of the other "offers." I'm sure some are valid. I'm positive some aren't.
I would have been so frustrated had I paid for this.
In the end, I would recommend the 'seminar' to serious fans of the speakers only, and those capable of proper research before monetary commitments.
I took the time to write this in the hopes of saving people some time. Take that as you want it. If it accomplished that goal, write a follow up post."

"I think that was summed up about as well as it possibly could have been. There were definitely good speakers there, but the infomercial atmosphere was overwhelming at times and some stuff was downright ridiculous. Also, even though I wasn't personally offended by the political rhetoric, I may have been if I sat on the other side of the isle - I didn't think that was a proper venue to voice such opinions. Overall, I still think it can be worth it just to hear the few good speakers as long as you're prepared for the other. Plus, even though James Smith was selling stuff, I have to admit I thought he was a pretty funny guy. No one will make you stay in the arena the whole time, so if something rubs you the wrong way, just leave and come back for the next one."
"Yea, i just you-tubed tamara lowe's rap, and i think this is by far one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Thank GOD, that I'm not going. I got free tickets, and I'm going to throw them in the trash unless someone wants to buy them off me??"
"An inciteful review. I went to the Phoenix event and was kind of enjoying the speaker entertainment. And I loved seeing Colin Powell and Steve Forbes on stage. Here's the rub. I invited a half dozen friends to go with me and gave them tickets (they were cheap). I warned them about the infomercial guys. The sale of their products are what pay for us to attend for peanuts. But the $49 and $99 products are just the beginning. The training sessions are focused not on teaching you what you were expecting to learn (basically how to get rich quick), but rather how to make the charlatans rich by sucking you in to sign up for more classes, subscriptions, training, whatever. As I said, I warned my friends about this....Still, they ran down to stand in line to hand over their credit card anyway. They were anxious to get signed up for this great promised piece of knowledge that would be their secret weapon for getting out of debt and making a fortune. That Motivated seminar is a CASH COW. I just wish people knew how they are getting kicked by it."
"Christ has not returned? Check it out, Bob"
"I have been seeing full page ads in Tallahassee Democrat with a ticket price of 5$. Didn't make Business sense. Now it does.
Thanks for the detailed review.
If not for the religious factor i might have attended to learn some sales tricks."
"Too bad if you didn't use your tickets. You missed an outstanding seminar. I speak of the Ft. Worth Get Motivated event. The negative reviews are just that - reviews by the negative who probably will criticize the manner in which Christ returns.
I have probably been in business longer than most of these "critics" have been alive. I know when there is an attempt being made to dupe the public. Believe me when I say that was not and is not the intent of the Get Motivated seminar.
A first-time attendee, I did go with the expectation of vendors ringing the arena, hawking every motivational product imaginable. Not so! The event was THE event - it stood on its own with power and dignity and just the right mix of fun ... provided mostly by participants from the audience!
Each speaker in the celebrity-studded lineup spoke candidly of their trials and triumphs and shared how they dealt with sometimes fun, other times most difficult circumstances. The main theme I heard was, stick to the task; keep focus; never give up until the job is done. Successfully!
Of all who appeared, however, my hands-down favorite was Tamara Lowe, co-founder of the event and author of the book Get Motivated! To me, Tamara is the embodiment of grace and class. She spoke from the heart of her early-life drug addiction, of dropping out of school, and of the victory of recovering her life through Jesus Christ.
I thought her rap was the best one I ever heard, containing her testimony of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Seeing her today, you KNOW she is the real deal. Unless, of course, you are a member of The Negative Brigade.
I loved Get Motivated! Feel free to copy and paste this!"
"THANK YOU!!!!!! Yours and the other negative comments convinced me not to attend the event although I had already purchased tickets. Although I feel that I was duped out of my money, at least I didn't waste a day at the event."
"hahaha....I'm sorry if this wasn't intended to be humorous but sometimes when you read about something so bad it just becomes funny. I'm glad that you weren't "duped" and hopefully with this review others won't be either. Thanks!"
