Imaginarium Deluxe Wooden Art Easel Review
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
"I plan to use this product for homeschooling purposes and for everyday arts/crafts.
I like that it is 2-sided b/c both my kids can work/play at the same time. I also like that it is height adjustable. There are 3 levels (low, medioum, and high) My kids are 4 and 5 and I have it set it at medium level already. The downside is there is not much difference at all in the different heights. Probably and inch or so between each. I have a flannel board (purchased from Mannings) that I use for homeschool and it fits perfectly on this easel and I just twist the knobs up at the bottom and it sort of holds my flannel board in place so my hands are free.
The chalk side is ok and works fine, but you do have to press down a little harder on this chalk board than you would have to on the typical chalkboard in order to make your marks. It does wipe away cleanly though unlike the dry-erase side of this easel.
That is probably the most dissapointing part of this entire easel...the dry erase board. I purchased some dry-erase markers at Manning's and used them on this dry-erase board. It stained immediately. Nothing dark, but very visible "left-overs". HOWEVER, I have found that the EXPO dry- erase markers work the best and wipe away more cleanly, specifically, the black EXPO dry-erase marker. Some colors do have more of a tendancy to leave more 'left-overs' than others and I still have to come back with a wet rag though to adequately clean this board. On the plus side, my kids could care less that there are light marks left on the board. I guess it's more that I am irritated that the board does not wipe away completely clean. It serves it's purpose though and the 'left-over' marks do not hinder me from doing their homeschool.
The design seems to be pretty stable. The directions were ok, but not that clear. The picture on the box the easel came in helped clarify the directions though. And, because it is wood, it stains very easily. After the first or second use, there were dry-erase marks and chalk marks all over the wood frame. I don't mind that though and neither do my kids.
Overall, this easel is average. It serves it's purpose and has several other qualities that I like."
