Maytag 3.2 cu. ft. Centennial Series Top Load Washer - MTW5600TQ Review
Great Rant
"I had a Maytag washer and dryer for 36 years. They were great. Couldn't find parts for the dryer and the washing machine finally gave out. This new Maytag washer and dryer are a piece of junk. The washer sounds awful, like it is going to fall apart and the dryer makes bumping sounds. They were delivered today and after running them we called the salesman. He said thats the way they sound and that it would be very costly to upgrade. He did not mention while we were looking at the different models that this one was noisy. I would never have bought this if I had known how noisy they were. Maytag has really gone down the tube."

""Maytag has really gone down the tube."
It already has - back in 2006. Whirlpool bought the company and transferred assembly operations at the company headquarters Iowa to its own production plants. Maytag is really just a nameplate now.
The old machines from the 60s and 70s were built to a commercial standard nearly unattainable today. Not that they'd sell anyway, as buyers today insist on complex, convenience-laden front-loaders with sophisticated features (at rock-bottom pricing). Also, the government has just about made it impossible to build a good traditional top load machine because of mandated standards for energy and water efficiency. Of course most people are having to run hotter water and multiple cycles to get their clothes clean with the new models, but.....!
You should now that most dryers from the good old days can still be fitted with new motors, belts, and drums from other used machines. Makes sense if you don't like the stuff that's being churned out now."
