Nikon S550 Coolpix 10MP Digital Camera Review

Some mixed results, great features

"Please note that in the "cons area" I marked these because I had mixed results in photos. The picture quality is good and can be great, but in some cases it could be much better. My old (Nikon p4, 8 mega-pixel) was equal or better in color and resolution. The camera's lag is not good in this new camera, this should be a must for any new camera in this day! In some light situations the focus is fair to bad, but other brighter situations it is sharp. It is hard to control in low light. If you are in normal sun it is good, but in shadows or some darkness it can sometimes be blurry. This may be due to it's image stabilization is not "optical stabilization". The "electronic VR" doesn't work as well as I would like. I would recommend a Nikon point and shoot camera that has Optical VR Image Stabilization, such as there Coolpix S600 or other. In some cases the S550 camera has too much grain in some of the photos. In normal light with some medium shadow it's OK, but there can be mixed results in medium to low light (even though it has ISO-2000). There is a bit too much grain in the dark areas in some photos, but I have had good dynamic range when outdoors in the partial sun to sunny with some shadow. I do love the overall look and its small metal body looks and feels cool. It's LCD screen is very good. Battery life is acceptable. Face detection could respond better on portrait or auto. The camera is simple to use and the functions are easy to navigate. This camera may be the perfect camera for first time or intermediate users. My wife is a novice and didn't really prefer it over our old Nikon point and shoot. I have included some photos to show that this camera can produce very good images even though I have had some mixed results."
