Serta Ultimate 4-inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper Review

GREAT Product / So-so Shipping

"After doing a lot of research I selected this topper because of it's density, thickness, and the fact that it is made in America. I would like to touch on the following:

Shipping: Standard shipping was free the Sunday I ordered. The product is warehoused 15 miles from my home. DHL's web site said "shipment acknowledged" until Wednesday night and then BAM on Thursday afternoon it said "Delivered". The box was left by my garage in the rain (If it was taken up the three steps to my front door it would have been kept dry). The product was fine, but carrying the wet box into the house wasn't fun. I'm in the shipping industry and don't think it should have taken that long to delivery, however it was free so I can't complain too much.

Smell / Unpackaging: FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! It was about 55 degrees out the day mine was delivered. I brought the (wet) package inside where it sat for about 2 hours before I opened it. I followed the directions and let it unroll itself and take shape. It took about 45 minutes. If yours takes longer it's probably because the foam is cold. There is a distinct smell. My sister, who has another topper, was over at the time and noted her topper smelled much worse. I kept the topper by an open window for a few hours before putting it on my bed. That first night there was a lingering smell, but I kept the ceiling fan on and slept through it just fine. Two days later I can't smell a thing.

Size: I took the advice of others and order the Cal. King to fit my Queen mattress (they were the same price so why not?!). GOOD MOVE! The Cal King fits head to foot, but needed to be trimmed about 9 inches on the side. I used heavy duty kitchen scissors and it only took about 15 minutes. The topper fits edge to edge and gives me maximum sleeping space. Make sure you own some deep pocketed sheets because you'll need them since you've just added 4 inches to your mattress. I already have some, but think I'll invest in a King sized down comforter because my Queen just doesn't have the length on the sides as I would like. I'm going to make a dog bed with the left over memory foam.

Comfort: Since this mattress is a density 4 and 4 inches thick I find it super comfortable! The foam is firm and then within seconds responds to your weight and body heat to conform to your every curve softly and sportively. My mattress is only 3 years old and is by a good quality maker. However, memory foam is a totally different ball game than the materials my mattress is made of. I don't think I could ever go back. Memory foam offers the best of softness and support. In the few nights I've slept on this topper I don't toss or turn as much. My sleep is more restful and I don't wake up with the minor aches and pains as I once did. I think this would be a great product if you have a loved one who is in bed a lot due to illness or pregnancy. It could be a little hard to get out of for the handicapped, but a 2 or 3 inch topper with a density 4 would be a great thing. Some people say the foam can make you hot because it holds your body heat. I don't find it to be a problem. I keep my room cool and sleep with a down comforter. It would be nice if the topper came with a case, but I just put it under the mattress pad and think it should be ok.
