"This bike hitch was the ONLY 1 1/4 hitch-mounted rack that could hold four bikes AND swing away from the back of the vehicle with the bikes loaded. I had never heard of the Softride Company before. Because of the features I took a chance on this rack. I also knew that if there was a problem REI would stand behind the product.It was pretty difficult to attach the rack to my U-haul installed hitch. I recommend that you go to a local hardware store and get an extended socket that fits the attaching bolt before beginning this project. The extended socket made the attachment much easier. Furthermore, once it was attached, it proved to be an excellent rack. It really does fold away from the car with all four bikes on it. And the bars that hold the bikes are very easy to detach: all you have to do is press a button in the back.After using the rack a couple of times, I broke three of the twelve plastic straps. (Each bike is held with three straps: one on each bar and one on the plastic anti-sway cage.) I called REI just wanting some more straps. I did not want to return this rack. REI called Softride and within two days I received twelve new straps for the three I had broken. [...](If after my tale, you are a bit leary of using the plastic straps, please note that you can use other webbing or cords with this rack.) I have had Yakima and Thule products in the past, but I like this bike rack system the best of any I have seen. The price is right, too."
