Sony DCR-SR200 Digital Camcorder Review
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
"I have used this product for a while and got to personally compare it with DCR -SR42. Both have theire advantages and disadvantages , so let me chart this out for you -
SR42 vs SR-200
1. Quality -
SR200 -> Very good quality. Amazing in low lights conditions as well. Night mode is also a worth feature. There is no motor sound in any video and the mic has a good reception.
SR42 -> So-So quality. Low light output is ok. Night mode stands comparable to SR200 and the sound too . So only thing as far as quality is concerned is the vidoe quality.
2. Zoom ->
SR200 -> A mere 10X optical zoom , is just OK. I found myself handicapped at quite a few instances with the low zoom capability.
SR42 -> Really stands out with a 40X optical zoom. Focuses well even on the high zoom and this is really a great PLUS for this handycam.
I would have loved to see the SR200 with a high Zoom capability.
3. Still Images ->
SR200 -> A 4mp camera really allows u to carry just this , and leave ur digital camera at home.
SR42 -> A VGA camera, u need to carry ur still camera along.
4. Shutter ->
SR200 -> Automatic - so needn't worry about opening or closing it .
SR42 -> Manual - it is kinda annoying. You tend to forget to open it or close it . And when you want to capture some sudden dynamic moments, this manual thing will make you lose imp moments.
5. Price - Not much difference b/w the 2 comparing the features that they offer.
6. Handycam Stattion -> The most annoying feature for both. For transferring images/videos to computer, or connecting it to a TV you need to put the camcorder onto a handycam station. I really hate this limitation. Unfortunately all sony's have this, not sure of other brands.
Conclusion -> SR200 is a great handycam, more optical zoom capability would have made this anyone's blind choice.
So if you are not really into more Optical zooming, then go for sr200. Otherwise you may want to try a Tape one . I do not recommend a DVD one, because of its DVD limitation.
Tape is anyday better .
But coming back on SR200 and SR42 . My take -> DCR SR200."
