"I recently purchased a Toshiba DVD recorder from ABT. As I am very happy with the recorder, I decided to buy a Toshiba DVD player, so that I can watch one DVD while recording another. I am very disappointed with the Toshiba SD-4000 player. Despite the fact that the recorder and player are both brand new units from the same manufacturer the remote and the menus are as different as can be.Whenever you get a new recorder there are always new features that you did not have before and there is always a favorite feature or two that you had before that is missing. However, with all the new features that they put on, they left off something that is extremely basic.Whenever I turn it off (or even if it turns off by itself, after twenty minutes of inactivity), when I turn it back on it always starts at the beginning of the disk. According to their own instruction manual this should not happen. Toshiba’s Technical Support Department contradicts their own instruction manual and states “If you power the unit down (either manually or automatically) the unit will not save the current location.” I have never had a DVD Player that did not resume at the point it was stopped under normal circumstances."
