Whirlpool 30" Freestanding Electric Range - Stainless-Steel Review

Not a lot of bells and whistles but a good oven

"I got this range as part of a "buy all 4 appliances together and we'll give you 20% off" deal. It does all the basics which is to say it will cook your food.



Let's start with the good points. The flat, glass top is easier to clean than the old metal eyes. If you get some stains on it while cooking there is a special glass top range cleaner you can buy and it works well. Another nice feature is the ability to turn on just the inner part of the larger burners. This way you save energy and avoid burning yourself when you're cooking with smaller pots on the bigger burners. Oven temperature is more accurate than on my old oven. So my food bakes in the time it's supposed to.



Now for the bad news. I thought I would like getting rid of the knob for the oven temperature. This oven is controlled with buttons for setting the temp up and down. The problem is it starts out at 350 degrees and if your item cooks at 425, you have to press the UP button 15 times (5 degree increments) to get it to 425. The glass top is easy to clean but seems to require a little more elbow grease (and special cleaner) to clean it.



And finally a pet peeve of mine...If I'm going to buy a range and microwave from the same manufacturer at the same time at the same relative price point, I'd expect the color of the digital clock/timer to match. But they don't. One of them has green numbers; the other has blue numbers."
