"This is the first epilator I've used. I chose this one based on the reviews here, and I'm glad I did. I was sick of shaving and don't want to wax so thought I'd try this.
A few tips: It DOES sting, tough it's really NOT as painful as I thought it would be. Transition slowly into use of this product over a few days/week or so--when the pain gets too bad, stop, and pick it up again later or the next day. Better to do a little bit each day than to kill yourself all at once!
Use it at night or when you know you won't be going bare-legged, since it can give a red, plucked-chicken look for a few hours.
What works for me is to pull the skin taut, use the faster speed (this one has two speeds) and move the unit slowly over the area. Experiment and see what works best for you.
The unit is loud (no gentle buzzing!) and the cord can be a tad annoying, but I've read that the cordless ones are less powerful. I may be wrong.
The unit comes with 2 head attachments: a "beginner" one with rollers and an "advanced" one that does hurt more. I'm using the beginner one--why hurt more??? The directions DO NOT specify that there are two heads, so it took me a few minutes to figure out what was what and what went where.
Not to sound loopy, but I am really excited at the thought of never having to buy razors or cream again, and most of all not having to extend my shower time or stand, one-legged, like a flamingo in the shower as I try to simultaneously shave and not fall and kill myself.
Note: This doesn't work well on the face--it's too harsh. For the face/upper lip, I highly recommend the R.E.M. Spring. No, this is not a paid endorsement!! It hurts worse than the epilator since it is a very sensitive area but it WORKS on all those fine little upper lip hairs!!! And it's portable and manually operated.
I've read that epilating gets less painful over time, so I'm sticking it out with both these products."
