Trying a little hard on new design

by dan1010101 on Nov 17, 2008

★★★☆☆
3.0

"I had the White Macbook 2.0ghz which worked fine but I decided to switch to the new macbook for a perfomance boost. My only gripe with the new new mackbook is that I think that the old macbook design is better: Old macbook : Plastic cover : Comfotable on wrist. Durable, temperature neutral except bottom gets a little warm New macbook: Alunimum : Solid feel but, does not feel comfortable. Edges feel sharper. Fee..."  Read Full Review

The best laptop on the market todate

★★★★★
5.0

"This laptop is exceptionally built. Of the 8 laptops I have owned (all are from different companies) I would buy this one again. There are a couple of complaints, the lack of an internal memory card reader and fire wire port, while not show stoppers it is an annoyance. You can over come each with a USB devices.I purchased the 13in, 2.4ghz, 2 GB of RAM then upgraded to 4 GB of RAM on my own.AS with every Apple product I have seen or owned this is the slickest, sexiest, streamlined piece of hardware you can buy today. All components are top of the line. Great Job Apple!!![...]"

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Good power output,
  • Good software,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long battery life,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

Moving from a PC to a Mac

★★★★★
5.0

"I've finally made the move from a PC to a Mac and so far I'm very pleased. Okay, I haven't gone over completely as I've purchased VMWare Fusion so I can run some of my expensive Windows programs that I don't have Mac equivalents for yet (e.g., Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc). I absolutely love the multi-touch trackpad. I've never been a big fan of trackpads in the past, but this works so beautifully and accelerates my work instead of hindering it. I love the form factor of the MacBook (it's so thin and light!) and I can't believe how cool it stays even when sitting on my lap when it has no visible vents (it appears to vent through the hinge). My PC laptops always got VERY hot and you had to be very careful not to block the vents. No such problems here! I appreciate the long battery life...granted it's supposedly less than the previous version, but it leaves my PC laptops in the dust. I also enjoy not having to listen to the fan cycling on and off like I do on my PC laptops. I'm still getting used to all the new programs and capabilities, but after about three weeks with my new Mac I have absolutely no regrets about switching and I'm not looking back!"

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Good power output,
  • Good software,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long battery life,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

Bad things about this machine:

★★★★★
5.0

"This review is meant as a supplement to additional reviews. You probably already know everything good about this machine so I'll specify the downfalls I've experienced in the last week of usage.1. Glossy screen. This is probably the biggest annoyance. Looking at the monitor is like looking at a mirror although screen brightness can compensate at the cost of battery life.2. Choppy trackpad. The multitouch is great! and works even better, but the new trackpad seems to miss about 1 out of every 20 clicks you make. Not a big deal, but at this cost it should be fixed.3. DisplayPort. Yea, go fork up another[$]to connect your expensive computer to an external display, oh and make sure to bring it with you because NO ONE else has it.4. Iffy network. It may just be me, but sometimes, airport just doesn't want to connect.Thats about it. And it was even hard to come up with these. I would note the positives but it would take pages and pages. Overall, an amazing purchase. Best thing about it - multitouch. You'll know what I mean when you use it."

    Pros:

  • And more more more,
  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Good power output,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long battery life,
  • Quiet

Love my new MacBook

★★★★★
5.0

"Got this 2-3 weeks ago and I love it. Still figuring some things out as I'm new to Mac, but no real problems. I think it's a matter of getting used to something new. I LOVE how everything just WORKS right away! I hooked up an older HP printer and was printing immediately--no setting it up, no driver issues--IT JUST WORKED! I spent over 2 hours the night before trying to configure my PC drivers to work with this printer and still couldn't get it to work.

I've been traveling the last week with my MacBook and it's been flawless--light enough to carry around and supoer powerful. It's connected immediately to every wi-fi connection without problems--once again, everything just worked. Almost too easy!"

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Fast,
  • Good power output,
  • Lightweight,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

Don't Use Pc Anymore!!

★★★★★
5.0

"Ok I'll give you the best detailed review i can...

I'm a huge windows nerd...i can do anything on there but i'm new to mac...i was nervous to make the switch but i'll never look back...

-The magnetic power cord saves you from getting snagged

-The display is bright and clear

-The trackpad is quite responsive and has lots of great uses but sometimes it is too easy to drag things you don't want to

-The keyboard is nicely spaced and doesn't wear easy but is missing a numpad and the backlit keyboard is really nice

-The multimedia and system buttons on the keyboard are really useful and convenient

-The slot loading drive is a lil noisy but that's to be expected and it's really nice

-The usb ports fit snug which is nice but there's only 2...i would think that's enough but i'm sure sometimes you might want to use a hub

-The video output kinda sucks cuz you have to buy adapters for it

-It would be nice if it had two headphone jacks since it's a multimedia based laptop and it's best shared with friends

-Integrated bluetooth is nice and fast

-Integrated wi-fi is pretty fast but lacks some advanced features

-Closes magnetically instead of with a switch which some people hate but i prefer because it's one less thing you could break :)

-Battery life is pretty good...can use for about three - four class periods before needing charge

-Integrated webcam and mic both are of decent quality and are integrated into the os pretty nicely...

-Battery and hard drive panel opens really easily and snaps back pretty well...

-Fast and Reliable OS but some problems are...

-can't watch wmv videos online unless you download a secondary program that allows quicktime to play them when they are embedded in a webpage which sucks cuz quicktime isn't as easy to use and doesn't go full screen

-lots of games don't work on mac

-lots of programs you may be used to for windows have mac versions but you have to rebuy them

-totally diff setup for the explorer than windows so takes a while to adjust

-Works with Xp/Vista mice and keyboards and printers

-You can dual boot with xp/vista if you need to play certain games or whatever but beware that you need xp with sp2 built in to the disc to use dual boot (no upgrading after install)

-Stats may not be high (2.0ghz processor or 2gig ram) but it's all really high quality like the processor runs at 1066mhz whereas with windows based laptops they brag about 3.2 quad cores and stuff but run at 533mhz...

Overall

Great buy...i'm very happy with it even though it takes some adjusting to...

I've found that if a program that i used to use on xp doesn't work on mac there is usually a different one that does the same stuff and sometimes more!

The hardest things to adjust to is the file explorer, the menus being on the top top (not the window top), clicking using multiple fingers not buttons (didn't take long to get used to and is great!), and the close and minimize buttons being on the left side. After you get used to it...it's awesome!"

Excellent machine with great features!

★★★★★
5.0

"So far I´ve been using my new Mac por personal use at home wile i get familiar with it operating system and handling. So far so good. I think that the most important thing to compare with all PC's that I've owned is that the MacBook is always ready for use within seconds from starting it as opposed to PC's always take more than 5 to 15 minutes to start. Another great feature is its size and light weight; for traveling is very confortable.

So far I can't find anything wrong with this machine."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Good power output,
  • Keeps cool,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long battery life,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

    Cons:

  • None

Great Product

★★★★★
5.0

"Slick, awesome design. Laptop looks unbroken and all outlets moved to left side when right side has dvd-rom. Nice leds to show battery status. Even after prolonged work it feels warm as not hot as previous models. Good display but you can clearly see fingerprints on it and keyboard and it's really hard to remove them. You feel like to spoiled brand-new product in few minutes. Great bright enough screen and really useful big touchpad with two buttons now! I really glad that I have it. Excellent as a gift to whom to you really care about."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Good power output,
  • Good software,
  • Lightweight,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

    Cons:

  • Clearly seen fingerprints

Apple MacBook

★★★★☆
4.0

"The first computers I actually fell in love with were Apples when they first came out. Got my first apple in law school and loved it! Since then our household has been totally PC until two weeks ago--I was sick of our windows vista driven laptop plagued with problems. Loving my new apple laptop--easy to use and networked with our wireless internet and printer in seconds! FAST internet! I'm still learning, but loving it so far. J&R was great too--took our gift cards over the phone and had the computer in under a week! Thanks J&R."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Fast,
  • Lightweight,
  • Quality display,
  • Quiet

Great computer laptop

★★★★☆
4.0

"I've had this computer for about 2 months now and the only thing I wish it has was the macbook pro's duo graphics card. If you play a lot of games spend the extra money and get the pro. You can play games on it but it can cause it to slow down a little. Otherwise performance is great. I upgraded the RAM to 4 GB and I have no problem with it freezing even when running multiple aps with vmWare fusion running and it still does not slow it down one bit. i do a lot of multitasking and this computer keeps up with me without a problem"

    Pros:

  • Comfortable keyboard,
  • Fast,
  • Good power output,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long battery life,
  • Quiet
