Fortunately I don't like water super cold. Would be worthless for soft drinks, beer, or perishable foodstuff. Takes forever to chill down room temperature items. [...] Nice styling. Totallysilent. "Lightweight, compact, quiet, holds cool temps well. Very satisfied."
Pros:
"I purchased this model because of the price and its thermoelectric refrigeration technology. It's also simple to use--just plug it in, turn on the temperature control, and close the door. I use it in the office and it is one of the quietest refrigerators on the market. It's actually quieter than the computer."

If you just want cool(not cold) waterin an attractive unit this is what you're looking for. However if want ice cold soft drinksor beer, or are interested in safely storingperishible items get something with a compressor."

"The Avanti appealed to me because it was compact, all fridge and used a cooling technology that didn't use coolant. One important thing to know about this alternative cooling technology is that it is limited to cooling to about 30 degrees below the ambient temperature (this is stated in the booklet that came with it). Food safety guidelines recommend keeping your fridge at 40 degrees to prevent spoilage. That would mean an ambient temp of 70. I live in AZ, so running the AC to cool my office to 70 would be insane. I placed a fridge thermometer inside, and it hovers about 50 degrees. I have stored milk and it seems to do OK since I use it up in less than a week, but I am always worried about spoiling. This is a good fridge if you want to keep sodas or other shelf stable beverages chilled or will operate it in a cooler environment, but I wouldn't recommend it for regular food storage."

Cons:
"When this refrigerator arrived, we put a thermometer in, turned it to the coldest setting and waited for it to get down to 40 degrees before putting perishable food in it. It never made it. When we read the manual thoroughly, we discovered why. On page 7 it says "This refrigerator uses thermoelectric refrigeration technology (no compressor) and is not designed for storage in hot areas like garages, warehouses or outdoors since it is designed to operate at a maximum of 30 degrees below ambient temperature." Since we set our air conditioning to 78 degrees, the appliance will only be able to cool to 48 degrees in our house. The FDA says: "Keeping a constant refrigerator temperature of 40°F or below is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Use an appliance thermometer to be sure the temperature is consistently 40°F or below. " [@] If you're going to use it to chill soda or other nonperishable items, or if you always keep your house at 70 degrees or cooler, this is a great product. It is not designed to store perishable food."

"Purchased to use in my office to keep beverages and lunch. Have had this refrigerator for 3 weeks, pleased with how quiet it operates (don't even know it is there), it has done a good job keeping beverages and my lunch cold daily.
With the wire shelf placed in it's highest position - the refrigerator is large enough to keep 15 bottles of water (16.9 oz bottles) on the bottom shelf, with approx 3 1/2 inches (high) of room on the top shelf to place additional items (ie: sandwiches and fruit). To give additional reference: the wire shelf is approx. 7 1/4 inches deep by 13 inches wide)
I haven't experienced any issues with the refrigerator maintaining my beverages/food items at a cold temp (my office is heated and air conditioned). I currently have the temp set at medium-high."

"Our kids inhale soda so there was never any when WE wanted some. My wife and I wanted a small refrigerator for the bedroom. Our secret soda stash. This little unit is super! Thermo-electric ROCKS! I was concerned that a non-compressor fridge wouldn't be cold enough. I was SO wrong! This little baby is awesome! Capacity enough for two 12-packs of soda with room to spare. We keep a couple of water bottles in the door. Light enough to place anywhere. Doesn't make a sound. A few hours after loading it our soda was ice cold! The L.E.D. light is fine for telling one soda brand from another. We threw a fabric sham over it and pretend it's a nightstand! We've had it a month and the kids still don't suspect! We couldn't be more delighted. Highly recommended!"

Cons:
"If the room temperature goes above 75 degrees, as our office temperature often does when the A.C. is off, the refrigerator cannot get cold enough to keep milk (and probably other foods) from spoiling. After having to throw out two quarts of curdled milk, it is clear that this fridge is fine for keeping water cool, but not for much else. There is a reference in the description to "new technology" and ambient temperature limitations but I missed it. So, though the size and the price is right, it has definite limitations."
Pros:
Cons:
"I don't think this appliance should be used for perishable food. I observed, and the manual says, that even at the coldest setting it doesn't cool more than 30 degrees below ambient temperature. If your room is warmer than 70 degrees, food would not be safe.
If all you want to do is keep soda or beer cold, this appliance would be fine. But I worry that, since it looks like a fridge, people might inadvertently store perishable food in it."
