"Pros: easy to use! Very intuitive design, and my heavy wooden gate hangs securely on the post. At least for now. Cons: you definitely don't get your money's worth with this product. The posts aren't solid wood - they're a composite of some sort. They're not even an inch thick, causing the screws that came with my gate to poke through to the other side once mounted. One is already coming loose after a month..." Read Full Review

"This product does exactly what it was designed to do: provide a flat surface to use either a pressure mounted gate or hardware-mounted gate with an awkward banister or railing (for us, wrought iron). When I first received it I thought it might be missing some parts because it is the most simple contraption I have ever bought, but it really does work. We use a pressure mounted gate and this kit keeps the gate firmly in place. The only thing I think needs improvement would be the strength of the velcro. My toddler has a fairly easy time prying the velcro straps open, which can make the gate become loose. Some additional fastener or much heavier-duty velcro straps need to be included in future models. Overall, very satisfied with product."

"This is a great invention! Totally saved my stair posts. I used it with a metal angle mount gate and it works perfect. The only thing I added was a little more padding - those round circle sticky things you put on the bottom of furniture as a buffer so the wood is not directly touching the posts. It comes with little pads but I needed them also on the bottom where the posts meet the floor. The extra pads work perfect. I have a 2 yr old and 4 mo old so I plan on keeping this up for a long time and love the fact that if I want to remove the gate all I have to do is undo the velcro and the whole thing disappears! No holes or hardware sticking out!"
Pros:
"We have carved banisters on both sides of the top of our stairs, and on one side at the bottom. We used 1 adapter at the bottom of the stairs to create a smooth surface to use a pressure mounted gate, which has worked well. We used two adapters back to back/strapped together on one side at the top of the stairs where we installed a curved hardware mounted swinging gate to allow for the length of the screws. However, it wasn't quite wide enough to use on the other side based upon how wide the screws were placed apart on the gate opening side. However, we did use the design to manufacture our own support using scrap wood we had at home and the straps from one of the two supports used on the opposite side. The support does shift a little from side to side when we close the gate, but not enough to endanger our munchkin or compromise the safety of the system at the top of the stairs. overall, I am impressed by the product and would purchase it again. I do wish, however, that there were several versions of the product: standard, extra wide, and extra thick, in addition to the extralong version already in existence (which is what we needed to purchase to make it all work)."
Pros:
"We used this with the angle mount gate at the top of our stairway. We have one oak bansiter. A small area was dented from delivery, but you can turn it any direction so I just hid that area instead of waiting longer for a replacement. The hook and loop straps held very securly, even hard for me to unhook and adjust. The only concern I have is that the area that we needed to screw into was in the opening where the strap went through, so the screw's tip is exposed. Curious fingers could reach in and get poked. The manufacturer should make that hole narrower (just wide enough for the strap to go through), but in the meantime, parents should cover that with white duct tape or something. It is very secure and worth the money."

"My baby girl's safety comes first, but I was dreading drilling into our railposts to fit baby gates at the top and bottom of our stairs. Then I found this! It says it works on square posts best but mine are square at the bottom and round at the top and it works perfectly!"
Pros:
"This was GREAT! Totally saved our wood bannister and made installing the gate very easy...I was skeptical that the gate would slide around, but this little baby is terrific! We have our gate mounted at the bottom of the stairs in a high traffic areas between the wall and the stair guard and it doesn't slip or budge or move out of place in even the slightest! I am very confident in its safety and love that my wood bannister will be saved too! Great buy! I would definatly buy this model over the one with plastic ties since it does slide a little sometimes and the velcro and clips keep this model from budging at all! Worth the couple of extra dollars for sure."
Pros:
"This kit is a great idea. It's simple to use and will save your bannister. It's also surprisingly sturdy, which I was a bit concerned about. There is only one problem. The screws that come with gates approved to be mounted at the top of the stairs are longer than this item is thick. So, if you are mounting at the top of the stairs, you'll end up drilling into the bannister regardless. In reading other reviews, I think someone else had this same problem. She said her husband wedged a piece of wood between the bannister and the kit. I can see where that would work so I'm going to try that next. If it works, I still find this product to be worth it enough to recommend it."
Pros:
"I read the reviews and purchased this kit rather than the one with plastic zip ties. I needed two since we have bannisters on both sides of the bottom of our stairway. TWO of the velcro straps broke during installation (one of them the plastic buckle broke and the other one the connection between the two types of velcro that stick together came undone) so we ended up having to go to the hardware store and buy plastic zip ties!!!!! It's an extremely loose and wobbly solution for holding up a baby gate, which needs to be opened and closed several times a day. The zip ties we had to use to replace the broken straps honestly are not that much worse than the velcro straps that came with this kit, so I'm not sure if it really makes much difference which installation kit you purchase. I'm surprised One Step Ahead doesn't offer the really nice heavy duty ones I've seen elsewhere, but I assumed since this product was offered by One Step Ahead, a company I trust, that it would be a good product. It isn't."

Cons:
"The handrail on my banisters were not wide enough to install the baby gate hardware so I bought these. Yes, it's a very simple design and you can make them yourself if you have power tools, but for those that just want the gates up these are perfect. They are very quick to Velcro onto the railing and hold tightly. I did have zip ties (per another reviewer's recommendation) but didn't need them. I was concerned that they weren't too sturdy since you can't get a dry wall anchor into them, but we've put over 200lbs of weight on them and they hold tightly. I bought and successfully used 2 of these (top and bottom stair) with the KidCo SafeWay Gate."

Do yourself a favor and go the the hardware store instead. Buy some solid wood 2x4's, paint them white, and mount your gate from there. Much sturdier and way cheaper."
