I had gotten this as a gift this past December and upon using it, it constantly sucked up bubbles/air with the water and leaked horribly when placed sideways even when it was closed or tipped. Review of the Day on 11/04/2011

The user manual ain't got nothing on this review.

"I originally bought this water bottle for a trip I took through Europe; however, since then I have used it for rock climbing, running, hiking, camping, and everyday use. Prior to this Camelbak, I had used a traditional wide mouthed Nalgene bottle, an aluminum bottle, and a similarly modeled plastic Target brand bottle with a straw.

I decided to get this water bottle based on its filter; however there are features which I have found extremely useful. The loop which comes off the back has been useful for clipping my keys, gym pass, and even carabineer to.

The straw, albeit difficult to use while running, is a creative way to keep the bottle from leaking. With the Nalgene I often found the mouth opening big enough to where water would splash me in the face, and with the Target bottle the straw didn't close and often leaked. I also think the changeable mouthpieces help keep a long lifespan for this water bottle.

I have never had bad tasting water come through my filter. I have been using it frequently for roughly six months, in Europe and at school, and am just now changing my first filter. I think that the filter makes is slightly more difficult to drink out of the straw. I found that if I used the Camelbak Groove while running it would make me somewhat winded.

I have dropped my Groove several times, as well as took it on a couple of long plane flights, and it has yet to crack or leak. I feel like the filter takes up a lot of room in the bottle though, and I end up refilling it 2 to 3 times a day.

I thought that this water bottle was expensive when I bought it, though I believe that it has probably saved me money and hassle in the long run. I didn't have to buy distilled water in Europe, and I can count on water from drinking fountains at school to taste great.

My Camelbak Groove has worked well for my active lifestyle, and I would be willing to try more of their products in the future."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free,
  • Good cushioning,
  • Long lifespan,
  • Retains temperature,
  • Unique

    Cons:

  • Pricey / poor value,
  • Requires strong sips,
  • Small capacity

Perfect H2O for travelers

"Originally went to buy a "Better Bottle" but 16 oz was too small & 25 oz seemed big, thus got this 20 oz size w/ great filter, which was perfect. Bought it just before going on a trip. Now that you can't bring water through security, this provides good tasting water from the water fountain on the other side of security so you don't have to buy expensive water from the airport vendors. Bottle will pay for itself in 2-3 trips for regular travelers. Taste tested versus Reverse Osmosis and Britta and water tasted great; way better than tap and very convenient. Unsure about the review that stated water tasted funny, maybe didn't rinse the filter before using. Highly recommend for everyday home/office use as well as travelers."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free,
  • Good cushioning,
  • Large capacity / good size,
  • Slim design

Impressed and would buy it again

"I have two Better Bottles by CamelBak and absolutely loved them so when I saw the new Groove bottle I knew I had to try it. I'm a college student and find myself drinking water all day long. Usually I fill up my Better Bottle before I leave with the filtered water at home, and try to avoid refilling it on campus, but with the filter system in the Groove straw I have no problem refilling it. It gives great, clean tasting water that I can enjoy all day. The only down side to this new bottle is the size, going from a .75L to a .6L was tougher than I thought it would be. Although the Groove lid does fit on my Better Bottle, the straw is too short to use. Aside from the size, I absolutely love it and prefer using it over my Better Bottle."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free,
  • Good cushioning,
  • Taste

    Cons:

  • Size

Well worth the money!!

"I usually carry two .75 liter Camelbak bottles with me to work daily filled with water from the home Brita pitcher, so when I saw this self filtering bottle I had to try it. I bought one for both my husband and myself and both of us "taste tested" our tap (city) water straight from the tap, through the Brita filter, and through the Camelbak filter. The water from the Brita filter did have a more filtered taste, but to be fair the Camelbak doesn't claim to filter out as much stuff as the Brita filter does. We both thought the water through the Camelbak filter tasted good and and much less chlorine tasting then the straight up tap water. I'm so excited that I don't have to lug around so much pre-filtered water with me anymore -- what a convenience!!! The only thing that disappointed me with the Groove versus the regular old Camelbak bottle is the smaller size. The Groove top is universal and does fit on my pretty .75 liter stainless steel bottle, but the straw doesn't reach all the way to the bottom. Hopefully in the future they'll make some prettier Groove bottles and some cozy sleeves that are sized just from them -- the cozy sleeves for the .75 liter bottles are way too big."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free

    Cons:

  • Small capacity

What a great idea for those on the go!

"Don't throw the box away without taking out the filter -it's hiding in the box. Maybe put a note in bottle to load filter. I feel I should empty the filter after using. I have squeezed the bite valve to drain the tube which works well. One of the first things I tried was using the filter assembly with a thermos Camelbak. It works fine and I can add ice to keep the contents cold. I especially appreciate this on the golf course and when checking out the sights in dry southern California. I plan to give several Goove bottles as gifts this Christmas. No more bottled water sitting all hot in my car."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free,
  • Filter doesn't slow flow,
  • Filter fits thermos too,
  • Good cushioning,
  • Large capacity / good size,
  • Love the seafoam color,
  • Makes great tasting water,
  • Makes me hydrate more,
  • Right size to carry,
  • Slim design

    Cons:

  • Almost threw filter out

Great for on the go

★★★★★

"Funny thing is, I got this for outdoor activity, but I love using it everyday indoors. My favorite thing about this is using it for airport travel. I travel a lot for my job, and want to stay hydrated on the plane. I can take this through security empty then fill it up at a drinking fountain, or just have a restaurant fill it up for me... and I have great filtered water for the plane. Also works great in hotel rooms when you don't want to pay for $6 bottled water! I also use it in the office and often get complements on how nice the bottle looks. Love that you can't spill it. Love that you don't have to twist off a cap everytime you want a sip. I definitely stay more hydrated everyday thanks to the Camelbak bottles... and the Groove make my travel so much better."

    Pros:

  • Good cushioning,
  • Good flavor,
  • No spills,
  • Unique

I had gotten this as a gift this past December and upon using it, it constantly sucked up bubbles/air with the water and leaked horribly when placed sideways even when it was closed or tipped. I looked at the lid, looked on the Camelback website and did what I could to keep it from leaking (checked the little valve, but it didn't stop, so I returned it and got a new bottle at REI. After using my new bottle here are a few things I realized:

- If you fly/go to high altitudes keep in mind that this is wear and tear on the bottle and it can mess with it's leak-proofness. If you read the manual, they recommend that you keep the bottle upright and that there could be water spurts. DO NOT leave it sideways - this will lead to a pool of water whereever you leave it!

- The water sometimes tastes filtered, and after using it for several months, i sometimes felt a minor irritation in my throat due to the charcoal. It went away after the filter was used 4-5x. Otherwise, I thought the water tasted fine.

- Capacity is small, but camelback expects that you fill up the bottle 3-4x a day.

Due to my water situation at work, I tend to tolerate a lot and this has helped me drink more water. Hopefully second time is a charm and that this new bottle lasts!"

    Pros:

  • Convenient,
  • Filters tap easily,
  • Good cushioning,
  • Large capacity / good size,
  • Slim design,
  • Unique

    Cons:

  • Faulty lid,
  • Leaky,
  • Leaves aftertaste

Not for well water

★★★☆☆
3.0

"We have well water that has a sulfur smell and iron/metallic taste. The filter so far is 50/50 for taste. Some days, presumably after our water has ran for a while, the filter does great and my water tastes excellent. At work, same situation; the water fountain is from well water with a very metallic taste, too strong for the filter to handle. I go into the ladies room, let the water run for a minute (i know, i know, i hate wasting all that water too...) and then fill the container and the filter works decent removing most of the bad taste. Conclusion: not so great for well water, better to buy something with a stronger filter intended for removing particles. For the price, and the fact that I can use it in airports, most of the time at home, and anytime I'm out and about I'm still glad I bought it."

    Pros:

  • Bpa free,
  • Convenient,
  • Doesn't spill

    Cons:

  • Not for well water

Great addition to the Camelbak bottle

★★★★★
5.0

"I have the camelbak insulated water bottle and have really enjoyed it so I decided to try this bottle. I took it on a hike thinking this would be enough water but it was hotter than I had thought, so I was really thirsty when I finished the hike. There was a drinking fountain at the end - but I'm always skeptical of the water quality. Because I happened to bring the Groove with filter with me, I was able to fill it up and drink the water through the filter. So I was happily hydrated."

    Pros:

  • Ease of water flow,
  • Good flavor,
  • Slim design

    Cons:

  • Could be bigger
