"Like many people, the space in my home office is limited. So my reason for choosing a "portable" printer was simply the smaller footprint in my home office. When you go shopping for printers these days, most of the popular products are "all-in-ones" that integrate the printer with a scanner and even fax machine. But I didn't want one of those, because I already have a separate scanner that I use occasionally, and again because of the footprint. Another consideration for me was that I anticipate moving again in another year or so, and even though a printer is only one item, the small and lighter that each item is, the better. These are all reasons why I am presently using a notebook computer (a MacBook Pro) for my home computer. Once I had decided on a portable printer, the choices were pretty much limited to the Canon and the similar printer by HP, but the user reviews consistently favored the Canon. Having been a consumer of Canon products for many years, I know from experience that they take pride in the quality of their products. Installing any printer these days is pretty much a walk in the park, and unless you are looking to get professional grade results from color prints, there isn't much difference in quality either. The speed of printing was more than adequate for my needs, and I just couldn't find any reason to hesitate to buy this printer. The only question was whether I was willing to pay more to get something more compact and lighter in weight. I have discovered that I really, really like having this small, compact printer sitting on the small table next to my computer, and not some great big all-in-one, or even a large conventional desktop printer. The extra money was well spent in my view. No regrets, although I should mention that I have not yet owned it long enough to have a sense for what the ongoing cost of ink is going to be."
Pros:
"It looks too small to be a printer. It is very small and compact. I needed a printer for printing quick documents and this prints VERY FAST! This printer uses two ink tanks, one for black and the other for color. I haven't printed much yet so I'm not sure how many prints can be made befor I have to change inks. I've had the printer about a month. So far so good."

Cons:
"Pros
Small and relatively light.
Cons
Slow to start printing; lots of whirring and clicking!
Additional Thoughts
Great for traveling."
"I have only had the printer for a few weeks, but have been able to use it several times. The set-up was easy, and the iterface user-friendly. The print quality is much better than I've had with either HP or Epson. Two issues I've encountered are (1)the printer is sensitive to paper curling (print head hits paper and paper doesn't advance) and (2)you MUST make sure there is an unobstructed landing strip in front of the printer for completed prints (since there is no output tray,I placed a plastic matt in front of the output slot to set up a protected zone). The footprint is so small that I'll likely be taking the printer on trips with me, something I had not even considered previously. I would recommend this printer to others."

Cons:
"Haven't had it long enough to comment on ink consumption, but the ink is pricier that the i-80 ink tanks. The i-80 was a good portable printer and very compact. This printer seems like a monster in comparision, but still easily fits in my backpack and, as far as printing goes, it is superior in every way to the i-80... begins printing sooner, prints much faster, and the text quality is far superior. Have only printed one photo, which was impressive, however, I purchased for mobile text printing, so don't envision much photo printing. Very satisfied so far."

Cons:
"I have had several portable printers--2 other Canons & recently an HP. I have to say, this is the best, to date. I feel that Canon quality is far superior to HP. It is quiet and very tight. I can run a sheet through and run it through again & there are no double letters. It follows the same track consistently. I have set mine up to run with the bluetooth adapter from Canon. Canon does sell things at a premium, but they have the best product, hands down! If you are looking for a quality, durable product that consistently gets the job done, this is it.
The ink is a slight issue, but with deals online I can live with this issue, too. I'll take the reliability over a slightly higher cost any day."

Cons:
"I've owned several Canon products, especially printers. I've owned the Canon i80, i90, and now the ip100, which is great!...The print quality surpasses any printer on the market, particularly for photos. One can't go wrong with this product."
Pros:
Cons:
"So far so good! I recently purchased this printer and although I have not owned it for very long, I love it! I am a professional photographer and have recently moved onto a sailboat, getting ready to go cruising and shoot travel. The Canon Pixma iP100 is the perfect solution for people living in small spaces. The quality is unbelievable for such a small machine. I wasn't expecting the images to be that good quality and purchased mainly for printing documents but I am 100% satisfied. That being said, I wouldn't use this printer for fine art printing. It's great for proofs and personal images. The only thing that could make this printer better would be a scanning function. So far, I have not been able to find a small, high quality printer that can also scan..."
