"We used this camera for the first time on our 7800 mile vacation trip. It takes great pictures; is so convenient to slip into a pocket; always handy; easy to use; very clear screen. Did not miss having a viewfinder at all!! ( I thought I would). The best part is the very fast turnaround between pictures and no first shot delay. This is why I chose this camera and it was 2nd in ratings at consumer reports. I..." Read Full Review

"My dissatisfaction with the Canon SD880IS all stem from really missing my old Fujifilm F30. That good old camera has the best lens/CCD of any point-n-shoot that I've ever seen. Even ISO1600 photos were usable. Everything was low noise. But [*] the two F30's that I've owned all crashed way before reaching 2 full years of use. Yes, I had liked the camera so much that after the first one died I bought another one t..." Read Full Review
Pros:
"We bought the Canon SD880IS mainly for travel as we have and regularly use a Nikon D80 with 18-55, 55-200, and 70-300mm lenses. The SD880IS' screen is big and bright in all light levels and it is obviously much more portable than the D80 with 3 lenses, remote flashes, etc. To test it, we took both cameras to watch the recent Space Shuttle Launch. The photos produced with this camera were almost as good as those produced with the Nikon at the same focal length (about 110mm is full zoom on the SD880IS). That says a lot, considering the SD880IS doesn't have many adjustments beyond the 12 scene modes. All in all, this is a great Point and shoot camera."
Pros:
"First off. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!
I bought it to replace my SD-1000 which I loved and took over 6000 pictures with in just over a year.
When it was time to upgrade (mainly because a friend dropped my SD-1000 and the flash never worked again) I researched point and shoots (even non Canon models) for over a month online and offline.
I finally decided, I loved the Canon line and was so happy to get a great deal on the SD-880-IS at Abe's.
I can't say ANYTHING bad about this camera. The wide angle lens, 4X Zoom, amazing picture quality, and solid construction are all pluses in my book!
One thing I really love is the ability to set a long exposure time (up to 16 seconds) In one week, I have taken some amazing pro-quality shots with open exposures that have blown away my professional photographer friends away!
Don't shop around. Just buy this camera and thank yourself later!!!"
Pros:
"Hi! how do you set up long time exposures??? i can't find it. Thanks"
"I purchased this camera specifically to use for an event that we had to attend. I usually use a Nikon D40 and D50 but my wife did not want me carrying around so much equipment. The camera works very well for snapshots and quick pictures. Setup time is fast - usual delay with taking the picture but if you plan and push the shutter release half way down then you can take quick shots easily. The quality of the shots is very good in most lighting. I do miss the ability to set aperature for depth of field. The screen on the back is great - large and easily configured to show the informaiton you want.
Overall I really enjoy using this camera. I keep it in my briefcase all of the time to take shots as I need them. The battery life is very good also."
Pros:
Cons:
"I feel the same way about Canon Powershots as I do about Macs - its hard to wrong, the product is good and sometimes you pay a little more for quality. As a casual photographer whose primary camera use is taking pics of day trips, outings with friends, etc. I cannot review the manual, or other complicated settings of the camera. What I can tell you is that it is lightweight, easy to use, takes excellent pictures and refreshes between snaps quickly (important for capturing sporting events or other other live-action shots). The video seems to be okay as well for a small point and shoot camera. Downsides - there are a ton of settings that I haven't even begun to explore, there is no viewfinder (which for me isn't a deal breaker, but for some users i know is a concern). i feel i have just begun to explore the many features of this camera and will be able to do a lot with it going forward."
Pros:
Cons:
"This is a near perfect camera for the advanced photographer wanting a fast shot with professional results. The ordering could not have been better and the sales staff was flawless. While it lacks some of the "bells and whistles" of the more expensive models of the same brand, the picture quality is equivalent."
Pros:
"I did my research before purchasing.Checked cnet & other online camera forums & sd880 was one of the top cameras by all, then went to a store so I could handle it & see how it felt in the hand then ordered from JR. (best price I found). It's easy to use, feature rich, good battery life & small enough to carry in a handbag so I am ready whenever a situation comes up. Also love the video feature. Would highly advise purchasing 4GB or bigger memory card. The card that comes with only holds about 11 pics. Would definately recommend this camera & JR!!"
Pros:
"I was reviewing digital cameras for a week before I purchased this camera. Am I glad I did. The LCD view is fantastic. You don't have to look through a tiny view finder. The quality of the photos is amazing; clear, crisp, with lots of details. The image stabilization is incredible. I won't ever go back to our Kodak Easy Share CX7430. This camera was well worth the investment."

Even ISO1600 photos were usable. Everything was low noise. But [*] the two F30's that I've owned all crashed way before reaching 2 full years of use. Yes, I had liked the camera so much that after the first one died I bought another one to replace it.Yes, the problem with the SD880 is NOISE NOISE NOISE. Even at very low ISO I can see the noise everywhere on the picture. I tried going for lower pixel count but they are still very visible. If you want to buy this camera, make sure that you've taken a few photos and zoom them out in playback mode. It's only after feeding a photo through Noise Ninja that I finally breathed a sigh of relief.Noise problem aside, the SD880 is packed with so many neat features. I've set the manual white balance to be trigged by the printer button. All I have to do is to point the camera at the white ceiling, press the printer button, and the camera is white-balanced exactly for that specific lighting.Face detection works great, and I really like the TV - self-timer - Face detection combo: I hook the camera to the TV, put the self-timer on Face detection mode, press the shutter, and nonchalantly walk to the spot of my choice before turning to face the camera. The camera reads my face and multiple shots of me are made. This camera takes BEAUTIFUL indoor photos -- with a flash, that is. (The Fuji F30 had been able to take all sorts of great indoor photos without flash.) The Canon engineers have done a great job with post-processing to get such nice even lighting on indoor photos, especially with such a tiny flash.I take photos with i-Contrast off. In the playback mode, I can apply the i-Contrast as I choose. And speaking of i-Contrast, I find that the SD880 tries too hard to second guess what photos I want, and the photos tend to turn out a bit flat. The photos all improve tremendously when I use Picasa or Photoshop to deepen the shadows. This is especially true with indoor photos. The video mode is not so useful. There is no optical zoom with video. The camera fakes a video zoom by doing a digital zoom. Of course, if the video is already only 640x480, doing a digital zoom will get you horrendous resolution. So just pretend that there is no video zoom. The microphone on the camera is bad.The handling of the camera is very good, and it is a beautiful looking gem. And I hope that it[*] will at least buy me more years than my two terrific but unfaithful Fuji F30's. Now if Canon were to come up with a 28mm F2.8 camera that had the same CCD-sensor philosophy and the manual controls as the F30 (fewer Megapixels for superb noise control), I would really PAY for that camera, bad economy or no."
Pros:
Cons:
"I wanted a camera that I could carry anywhere so I wouldn't miss any photo ops at social gatherings, vacations, etc.. (My primary Camera is Canon 1DMKIII. The SD880 has limitations and if you work within them it's a great little camera. I've found its best to fill the frame with your subject and not rely to much on cropping because alot of cropping will definately degrade image quality with "noise". I've found ISO's 100 to 200 to be the ideal range with ISO 400 being more noisey but correctable with the right software.
Start up time is very fast DIGIC 4 is nice. Battery life is also greatly improved. I would definitely recommend to friends."
