"I bought this to because I was so pleased with the performance of my pro 1000 sub that I purchased a few months back and I am completely amazed at how such a small center channel can put out such big sound. Now I want to get rid of all the rest of my speakers and go with the Def Tec. speakers. I am running this of a ! Sony STRDG 1000 amp and it can take everything it can put out. I think it is time to get rid of..." Read Full Review

"This would be an average or possibly above average speaker except for one thing. The low frequency response is poor. The specification says 47Hz. What that actually means is that at full power, you might be able to hear a 47 Hz tone if the room is quiet. It desperately needs a sub-woofer with a crossover frequency of at least 120 Hz. That's way too high for a speaker of this size and at this price point. If you ..." Read Full Review

"Two months ago, I purchased the Onkyo 608 AVR . With the HTIB speakers it sounded better, but still lacking on dialogue. I read many reviews on Definitive Tech, went to BB Magnolia and gave it a listen.
I asked to hear the ProCenter 1000 with the Onkyo 608. I was pleasantly surprised. It is a small speaker (14" wide) but fits nicely on my HT stand. Connected it with banana plugs and noticed the difference right away! Sound is very good, and now it is broken in, it sounds even better. It has great range with highs and bass.
I have the crossover set at 120 hz, that is what the Audessey eq put it at on the Onkyo. It does handle the power of the receiver easily. I haven't heard any distortion. I don't play movies or music extremely loud (I'm on the 2nd floor).
About a month ago I paired it with 2 Pro-Monitor 800 for the front. Sounds great! and it flows seamlessly across the channels. I watched "Field of Dreams" recorded on my DVR to test the "quiet" volume. I could hear, the rustling of the cornstalks, the wind, and birds chirping in the background. I also heard very clearly, the whisper of the line "If you build it, he will come."
I know it may sound lame, but most reviews state how loud it is or how much the bass thumps, but never subtle sounds. The Def Techs handled all the ranges I threw at it, including all the battle scenes from various Bluray movies. Music sounds very good also. Tried some Classic Rock from the Comcast Digital Music channels. A Vivaldi CD, and a Pink Floyd "Dark side of the Moon" CD. Yep, it was all good! Very good blending of the speakers. I will eventually replace the surrounds and sub with Def Techs in the future. But for now, everything sounds great. I admit, I'm not an audiophile, but I like what I'm hearing!"

"I use this in a full Def Tech ProCinema 800 5.1 system, powered by an Onkyo 605, with a Sony 52 inch W-series LCD TV. I recommend purchasing the entire ProCinema 800 5.1 set as a system. They are very well-matched acoustically, and are made to work with each other. Naturally I spent some setup time balancing EQ, levels, and subwoofer optimization, but they sounded good right out of the box. The ProCenter speaker is clear and serves as a good aural anchor to my home theater system. It puts out plenty of volume to lift the vocals above the other sounds on the soundtracks. I find it also clarifies the vocals on regular music sources such as CDs."
Pros:
"There is absolutely nothing on the market that can touch this center channel for the money. I researched and listened to different centers and this unit is by far the best in the $200-$250 price range. I used it to replace an old Bose cube that was not putting out the dialogue I had hoped for. This speaker buries the Bose and because it has the bass radiators on the side of the unit it gets a ridiculously low 47Hz on the frequency scale! I almost don't even need a sub with these Def Techs. The amount of bass punch (crystal clear) they put out is unreal for a speaker their size. Every other center I have researched can't touch the bass end of these (at least on paper) and the mid and highs are beautiful. I expect this center to blast off when I finally get a better receiver that pushes a bit more juice. Very happy with this purchase."
Pros:
"I purchased this speaker to replace a pioneer 100 watt center channel speaker that i had for nearly ten years. The difference in my surround system is like night and day. This speaker seems to bring my whole speaker system up to where it should be.Powerful and precise voice reproduction. I will have to audition the rest of the Definitive Technology line for my next speaker purchase which will be a pair of front speakers. I would definitely tell anyone in the market for a center channel speaker to audition the definitive Technology Pro Center 1000. you will not be disappointed!"

Cons:
"I walked into Magnolia Home looking for a more expensive center to add to my base home theater, until I was asked to listen to this speaker first. The salesman advised me this speaker was the one to get for the money. With a budget of $350 I was looking at some more expensive center's. When he let me listen to this $200.00 speaker I was sold. No question about it you can't find a better speaker for this price."
"I am so amazed out how great this center channel speaker is! I currently have the Bose acoustimass cube speakers and the sound from the center speaker was horrible. The dialogue was very muddy and muffled, it was hard to understand when I would watch movies. I decided to by a center speaker to fix the problem and so I went with the Bose VCS-10 thinking that it would work a lot better and to my surprise, it sucked! There was no difference. I then went with a Polk Audio CS-10 and it sounded a lot better then the Bose one but the speaker was too bulky. I was then recommended by a friend to try the Definitive Technology Pro 1000 center speaker and it was like day and night. It sounded better than the Polk audio one and 1000 times better then the Bose Speaker. Best of all, the speaker is very low profile, I was amazed out how clear the dialogue is and how strong this speaker is, I love it!!! The funny thing about all this is that I had never heard of Definitive Technology speakers, I am glad I do now, if the rest of their speakers are like this center channel one then I am sold!!! Best center speaker available in the $200 price range. With the sound you get from this center channel speaker, it can easily sell for more, thanks Definitive for not over pricing!!!"
"Replaced a brand-new Klipsch center speaker with this and used the Klipsch elsewhere. I like the sound much better. The little bit lower profile also is very helpful in allowing placement directly in the center of the flatscreen base."
Pros:
Cons:
"I purchased this product because I was having difficulty picking up the dialog while watching movies.
Now, with the Definitive Technology Black ProCenter 1000 Center Channel Speaker the soft spoken and whispering doesn't escape me. I can finally Hear!
Thank you"
