A Poor Man's Apple TV

"The Denon Dock is obviously built around the iPod. Unfortunately it is not built around how people actually use the iPod. First the good: The connection is simple. It gives an onscreen display. It supports video as well as audio. It can be controlled by the remote control for your Denon receiver although it uses an obscure button on the back of the remote. It charges the iPod.



Now the bad: It does not support scrolling. Imagine if your iPod did not scroll and you had to click through every song, every artist, every album one at a time. I have over 6,000 songs on my iPod. It would take a month to click through them. The only realistic way to use this is with Playlists, very short Playlists. Forget searching.



The Bottom Line: It's slightly better than just connecting your iPod to the receiver without a dock. It's not as good as the Apple TV, but it costs less than a third the price. If you don't have very many songs on your iPod or it you are willing to change the way you use your iPod in order to make it work with the Denon Dock, then it might be okay. If I had it to over again I probably wouldn't buy it."

Simple to set up.

"I can't seem to be able to change selections with the remote or at the amplifier. This feature was available with a Toyota Scion TC using the steering wheel controls, so one would assume the same for a dock by Denon that connects to a Denon amplifier. I still recommend the dock as it is great to have the convenience of my music library instantly at hand."

No Control Through iPod

"Attractive and reasonably easy to set up, but once you plug in your iPod, you can no longer use the iPod controls to scroll thru menus, select songs, pause, etc. Everything has to be done thru the receiver remote, which isn't great on most Denons. If you want to access a menu, you pretty much have to turn on your tv. Otherwise, looks and works great."

Ipod Dock

"I bought this particular piece on a whim, my sales buddy at Best Buy reccomended it so I grabbed it, I got it home and plugged it in, took a few minutes, had to read what wire went where on the reciever, got it in and powered up and I have to say folks, on my system it sounded like whatever was playing was in concert right in my bedroom from Blink 182 to Trans Siberean Orchestra, Slipknot to Godsmack, Lil Jon to Eminem, it did not matter what was playing it all sounded amazing."
