"I was in desperate need of a good vacuum -- we have a very large dog who sheds horribly, two cats, and an 8 month old baby who just began crawling. I was tired of picking pet hair out of his hands, mouth and toys. I didn't want to bother toying around with cheaper vacuums and so I went straight to the Dysons. Got it home and vacuumed everywhere, including under beds, sofas, you name it.
Suction: Great. It does a very good job of getting the pet hair off the rugs and wood floors (and furniture). I can finally let my baby crawl around on the rugs and he isn't covered in dog hair... maybe a stray piece here and there but that's it (must vacuum every day). The downside is that the suction is so strong that it's a bit difficult pushing it across our shag rugs, and we can't vacuum throw rugs without a fight (like the bathroom kind).
Hose/Tools: takes some getting used to. It's a bit awkward using the hose, but then again I think most vacuum hoses are. The vacuum keeps rolling into me while I try to use the hose. The tools are basic, nothing fancy. The low reach floor tool would be a good addition.
Weight: While this is lighter than most Dyson's at 16 lbs, I still feel like it's somewhat heavy for me. Especially when trying to push it over the thicker rugs. It's almost as if the center of the weight is in the handle and that's why it feels heavy.
Ease of Use: The ball feataure is nice to have but I'm not overly excited about it. The unit is still challenging to move around in small spaces (as with most vacuums). The dirt bin empties easily. The off/on beater brush switch is nice to have, handles wood floors well.
Other notes: The vacuum seems to exhaust warm air, to the point that i can actually feel the room getting warm. Cord could be longer. Relatively quiet. Would be nice if the handle had some soft rubber, my hand hurt after using for long periods. The foot pedal to release the vacuum seems to stick sometimes.
Overall Summary: I give this 3.5 to 4 stars because of the quirks mentioned above. If rating on suction and how well it handles pet hair, I'd rate it 5. I'm thrilled that my baby isn't covered in pet hair anymore. But when spending that kind of money on a silly vacuum, my opinion is that it should be perfect. I wanted to be "in love" with this vacuum, and while that's not the case, I do still really like this vacuum. But the price tag could be lower."
"it is a piece of junk. All the DC 25 sold to a local store had material defects with the telescoping wand. Wand has a spring that is supposed to open and close. Dyson has a franchise store in NJ. Dyson requires you to pay a [$]. Warranty is never honored by Dyson. When I complained to the Dyson headqaurters staff, was told that it is my job to go on my hands and knees before vacuuming to make sure there is no loose change, bobby pin etc. Otherwise the warranty is void even though this was a clear defect affecting all models sold by the local store. The staff i spoke with at dyson headquarters are rude and unhelpful. One manager kept me on the phone for over an hour. He kept calling store and everyone else to confirm all models were defective. He refused to do anything even once he confirmed. SO why did he keep me on hold for? How can a major consumer product company refuse to honor their warranty? I am suing them in court to get them to honor their warranty. Hoover has a six year warranty and actually honors it. Electrolux has a two year warranty and allows stores to return products with no questions asked. Dyson's five year warranty is voided once you use it to vacuum the carpet. You are paying a lot of money for a mid range vacuum with no warranty and poor product support. How many major consumer products companies have a F rating? I managed an appliance store for several months in a previous position. Sold lots of vacuums and dealt with lots of companies. Dyson is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Stay away from Dyson. Go with an electrolux or hoover. Trust comsumer reports and Better business bureau if you dont want to trust me."
Cons:
"sounds like a terrible experience and a terrible vacuum. I've never heard of any vacuum that can't handle change or loose stuff on the floor. What's the point of having a vacuum if you have to clean up before using it?"
"I love everything about this vacuum. I researched CR and initially bought a recommended vacuum, got it home and put together (not easily) and didn't even vacuum the whole room. I boxed it back up and thankfully was able to return it to the store (they have a wonderful return policy). I then looked into user reviews of several brands and most of Dyson users were very satisfied. I found it at meijer.com at the best price and ordered it immediately. It shipped promptly, was easy to put together, and I vacuumed the whole house. We have 2 longhair cats so it gets lots of use and does a great job with the cat hair. Emptying the canister is so easy and if you empty it into a plastic bag you don't have dust and dirt flying around. I love the it that I don't have to buy bags! It also is great on bare floors and is very easy to stop the brushes from rotating on bare floors. It also edges very good. It was a bit confusing at first to use the wand with the accessory brushes, but the wand has a good reach and still has great suction. It really does "turn on a dime" and is so easy to maneuver. The only improvement I can think of would be a longer cord, but that is a small thing to give up in exchange for all its great features. Bottom line.......vacuuming isn't a dreaded chore with this Dyson!"

Cons:
"I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about with the handle feeling like it will break off. Also, the DC25 has a lot more suction power than the lower models, so to me it is worth the extra money. This vacuum is very well designed and a dream to use! It handles very well. It turns with just a flick of the wrist and is very lightweight. The easy reach feature is awesome because you can stop in the middle of vacuuming a room and grab something off the ceiling then continue on your way. The attachments also snap on very well and don't fall off constantly like I've had happen with other vacuums. I would definitely recommend this vacuum!"
"This vacuum does everything. We had two vacuums prior. One for large areas and another for bathrooms, stairs. We got rid of both and can easily use our Dyson for everything. it's true, it never looses suction. We have two dogs and can do the entire 2600 SF house without emptying. that's a lot of fur!"
Pros:
Cons:
"In general does everything I was told it could do. Bought it when it was $100 dollars off. I'm sort of cheap so without my wife's persistence, the recommendations along with item being on sale probably would have gone with a chepo. I'm glad I didn't. 1000 sq ft ranch so I don't have to much problem with the cord length. I would be nice if it was longer.
The 2 things that bother me.
1: The non-flex tube that is part of the cleaning wand function. It makes it difficult to vacuum the furniture.
2:Perhaps it is just my unit. However, it is difficult to get it to lock in the upright position. It wants to rock forward before locking.
To be fare with the 1st point. The non-flex tube does come in handy when sucking up things on the ground or the ceiling."

Cons:
"I bought a dyson because of their impecable reputation and was looking at the DC25 Ball and the Dyson All floors. I went with the ball because it was so lightweight and I have a multi-level house. I have two children ages 20 months and 3 1/2 but I purchased this a year and a half ago. I needed a vacuum that could keep up with my messy toddlers. This was NOT the vacuum I had anticipated. While the Dyson Ball is easy to maneuver that is a blessing because you will be vacuuming all day long just to try and get it to pick everything up. I really loved how I had to manipulate the vacuum to even pick up particles such as cheerios having to lift it and contort it in such a way because just pushing it forward would just push the food/dirt around. I would finally get it to pick up food/dirt just to have it spit it back out in other places. That was just lovely to tirelessly vacuum ALL DAY LONG. I sent this vacuum back to Dyson several times where they changed out just about every part but wouldn't give me back my money or offer me an exchange for a new product. Luckily, the store I purchased it from a year and a half ago gave me my money back because of the documented services I showed proof of and because of Dyson's lifetime warrant...a.k.a. the store would be getting it's money back from Dyson. I purchased the Dyson All Floors and couldn't be happier."
Pros:
Cons:
"This vacuum is amazing, It's worth every dollar you pay for it. We have long hair- like almost to my knees. Every single vacuum I had so far was stuck after 2 minutes of vacuuming my house. This runs like crazy. My carpets look like the day they were installed. Honestly- the best and easiest in use vacuum you can imagine. And it's so easy to handle and looks amazing."
Pros:
"I have been searching for a good Vacuum for about 3 years now. I have tried all kinds from the VERY expensive Rainbow a total waste of money to the cheap vacuums. Problem I always had was the sweepers did not suction properly on my shag thick rug & I would try using the floor setting and would always feel dirt hit my feet. I just received my new Dyson on 3/4 tried it today for the first time. I am extremely happy with this machine. It sucked the dirt and hair out of my thick rug and when I hit the button for the "floor" setting I could not believe that I did not feel one drop of sand hit my feet. As I watched, you can actually see the sand on the floor being pulled to the vacuum. I am happy I bought this. Love the fact that HSN gives you payments to purchase items such as this because if they didnt, I wouldnt be able to afford new items! If you have never purchased an expensive vacuum, I would suggest trying this one out. You will be happy you did."

As an engineer, I was also enamored with the technology of the Dyson, but discovered it was poorly engineered. Lots of suction, but a real pain to use. As a result it did not do a good job. Fittings for hose and attachments were very difficult to attach and detach. Quality of attachments was poormore like that of attachments one would expect on a cheap novelty vacuum. This might be a good machine for a single application, e.g., a carpeted office where it was to be used only on the floor, and other more appropriate equipment used for other cleaning. It certainly was not a versatile vacuum for general us. The Dyson overall struck me as being what I expect of the "Made for TV" junk that looks good when being demonstrated, but is poor for its promoted use."
