"First off I want to give Target 5 stars for their return policy. I ended up returning two of the Dyson DC-14 vacuums and they didn't give me any hassles. I thought that the construction seemed to feel a little flimsy, but I would give it a try after hearing so many people rant and rave about it. The first one that I had broke aft..." Read Full Review
"I vacuum a minimum of 2-3 times a day. Plus clean other people's homes. Needless to say we are hard on a vacuum cleaner! I had an old Electrolux that could no longer keep up, within the next year I ended up buying a total of 3 mid-priced vacuums-NONE of them worked well !!! THEN i found the Dyson, we have owned ours for 2 years now & it is still amazing. It has an extra long cord, I plug it in in 1outlet of our home and am able to vacuum the entire house, upstairs included, without unplugging it. The wand is attached and easy to use. My boys are no longer able to remove the wand to sword fight and loose it! Every spot on this vacuum where it could possible clog with hair or mistakenly sucked up things is easily removeable, it takes me 30secs to check the joints! The hose is clear so you can just look to see if you have a clog. It is easy to empty & does not loose suction as the canister fills! No banging dust out of a filter just to get it to suck. I wash the filter twice a year, and even at that, it suckes likes a shop vac. I too was hesitant on the price but let me tell you it was well worth it! I can't say enough about this vacuum. When I first got it I thoroughly vacummed and filled about a canister per room! I couldn't believe how dirty my carpets really were! Another great thing is it does not tip when you remove the hose to vacuum frevices, stairs etc. it just pulls along. My only grip about this vacuum is the fact it has a blocky head & cannot vacuum under the cupboard ledges, you need to use tools for that. If you have laminate flooring or linoleum it vacuums that great too-I no longer own a broom! One thing I will say I wish I got the yellow one with the ball-other than that NO REGRETS!!!!"
"I LOVE my Dyson!!! I had used bagless vacuums before, but this one ROCKS!!! You can see the dirt and it comes out of the bottom of the canister so you don't get dirty. The handle is GREAT! Very comfortable to use when vacuuming! It is a powerful vacuum... you can feel it when you push and pull it across the floor. My FAVORITE part of the vacuum is I can vacuum my hard wood floors and the crumbs don't go flying everywhere!!! It's GREAT for getting kitty litter off the floor too! The on-board tools make is SUPER easy!!!
It's a wonderful vacuum and worth the investment!!!!"

OK, so after a lot of research and looking around I decided to get a Dyson DC-14. I thought that the construction seemed to feel a little flimsy, but I would give it a try after hearing so many people rant and rave about it.
The first one that I had broke after about 20 minutes of vacuuming. The beater brush cracked and made a terrible noise. Now I do not have thick carpet and I was not using the vacuum aggressively. So I thought, ok I got a lemon. I will try another.
The second one lasted about the same amount of time and began to make a loud rattling again from the beater brush area. After some investigating the beater brush was warped and rubbing against the plastic housing.
So I took it back and got a full refund.
As I mentioned the vacuum itself doesn't feel very solid. Everything is plastic. The beater brush and housing is made out of plastic and the entire unit just doesn't feel like it would last a long time.
Another interesting fact about these vacuums is that if the belt breaks you can not change it yourself. You have to take it to a service center or send it in.
I would recommend looking at a Panasonic or Ricca. I bought a Panasonic and it is very heavy duty and can be serviced very easily."
"I recently fired my cleaning service and decided to start doing it myself, but I wanted a vacuum cleaner comparable to the commercial ones used by the maid service. I bought one of the $300 Oreck vacuum cleaners a little over a year ago and it was okay but never really met my expectations. So I researched several including the Dyson. Despite the high price I ended up sucking it up (no pun intended) and getting the Dyson because it had so many rave reviews. I brought it home and immediately put it to work. Initially I thought it was O-KAY. I have light colored carpeting and THOUGHT my carpets were clean -- but it definitely picked up dirt I didn't think was there. The true test came when I took it to the basement. OH MY GOSH! I could absolutely not believe the dirt that thing picked up. I have a beige neutral color Berber carpet that "looked" clean but the dirt literally filled the canister up - and I had a cleaning service mind you. After that episode, whatever little doubts I had about whether my money was well spent were "POOF" gone. I also have a two level stair case in the foyer and it reaches with no problem. Much better than having to lug the upright from step to step. The only thing I would suggest is getting your carpets cleaned to help pull the nap up and the Dyson will keep it looking new..."
"I used to love my Oreck but a new area rug seemed just too overpowering for my old vacuum and I avoided vacuuming it because it would always clog my old vacuum and cause the belt to break. When I brought the Dyson home, I was amazed and disgusted by how much stuff it picked up just one day after I had vacuumed with my regular vac. I told everyone I knew, including my mom who was mad that I would spend so much on a vacuum. So I brought my new Dyson to her house and when she saw what was sucked up from her bedroom after she had vacuumed that day, she said she was getting a Dyson, too. I love the extension handle for sucking up cobwebs in high corners and around the blinds and for doing corners on the floor. This vac is SO easy to use. You can pull the canister off and empty it with one hand. It could not be simpler. My carpets were less than 3 years old but some of the high traffic areas were a little matted down... not anymore. Great product. Believe the hype."
"13 months of owning a DC14 has convinced me that I've received my money's worth and then some.
First, the suction is amazing - especially the attachment suction. It does not weaken or quit, no matter how full the collection canister becomes.
Second, switching between attachment and floor suction is a no-brainer - upright handle for attachment, reclined handle for floor.
Third, I haven't had to buy a single bag, filter, or belt for this vacuum. The collection canister is large, clear, and easy to empty (the bottom drops open at the push of a button, so I stick the bottom into a plastic bag -very little mess!). The filter and case are washable (I am considering purchasing a second set so I can clean the filter and keep vacuuming). The belt is lifetime, which makes my husband happy!
Fourth, the hose storage is very compact. I hated struggling with a hose as well as a vacuum, especially when carrying the vacuum up or down stairs.
Fifth, maintenance is simple - the canister section comes apart easily for cleaning, and the beater brush's metal frame allows me to slide a small scissors along to cut away threads and hair that wrap around it (with four long-haired females, this happens often enough!).
By the way, Dyson's only product is vacuum cleaners, and it has gone international over the last 10 years. I was looking for a product that would be around for years, as our previous vacuum's manufacturer quit making their vacuums only a few years after I purchased it (so parts were no longer available).
What initially sold me on the Dyson was the almost unanimous praise it received from consumers. I'm glad to add my praise to the list!"
"This is the must buy of the year, bite the bullet and just go ahead and buy it you will not be disappointed. I had heard all the hype about this vacum cleaner and thought it was just that....hype. Even when my mother went and bought one and told me how amazing it was, I was still not buying the hype. Then just recently we found ourselves with a dog and new carpets....not a great mix!! I did the research and the Dyson came up fitting our needs....still I was reluctant, it just seemed a ridiculous amount to spend on a vacum cleaner. So I put it off and put it off until my new carpets looked as though they could take no more and I did it, I bought the DC 14. All I can say is amazing, absolutely amazing, everything you read about the Dyson is true. If you think you have a clean house, think again. I hoovered my house from top to bottom and had to empty the canister 4, yes I said 4 times!!! My carpets look new again, dog hair is no longer the bain of my life and I am more than pleased with my Dyson, I am still amazed by it every time I hoover. So if you have been thinking about getting one, all I can say is do it. With the attachements and the extendable hose, cleaning your home will be a breeze, from carpets to blinds, it copes with it all."
"I have always been a firm believer in getting the best vacuum possible for getting and keeping carpets clean.
I needed a new vacuum, Rainbow was gone. I wanted to buy one again that was going to last years. I wasnt going to be an impluse buyer even though I had tossed my old faithful. I did my research and read everything I could. In the end I based my purchase on Consumer Report, and bought their "best".
I got it home, couldnt wait to use it, and was sadly disappointed. The only way it would vacuum was the attachment for bare floors. This was awkward in that the extension hose was wobbly and with the slightest amount of pressure. It wasnt made well, didnt preform and I knew wouldnt last.
I returned it and a different saleman was working. He just said. "have you tried the Dyson?" "I have NEVER had 1 returned and they are great."
I told him about Consumer Reports and that the Dyson didnt have the number # 1 rating.
His comment was "and they never will, its from the UK!"
"the machine is awesome though, lets have a look."
The store was closing and I left feeling like I had my answer.
I came home, got online and checked OVERSTOCK. Not only did they have Dyson, the Bronze just happened to be with a great discount at the time. I could buy it now and not have to wait a couple of weeks to save for it.
I ordered it without hesitation, and it was here within 3 days!
It was so easy to assemble, I already loved the design and construction.
Just let me say, I cant remember the last time that a cleaner made those wonderful vacuum lines in my carpet! The Dyson did the most amazing job ever!
I had to empty the container a couple of times, and I am a believer in vacuuming every day.
I continued on, I vacuum my mattress, pillows, ceiling fans, curtains, everything I could! The suction is awesome, picks up pet hair like a charm, and dust too. Have you ever seen a vacuum with "dust" in the canister? Very very fine dust? It picks up everything.
The extension hose slips right out of the machine at the top and is just perfect. Makes cleaning ceiling fans so easy.
Its built well, not complicated at all.
No filters to buy, no bags to buy, and it will clean like no other.
Consumer Report... shame on you!
I rate this the #1, and its the voice of the user that should count.
You can trust to buy it from Overstock for great price, and fast delivery. And the shipping... well you know that is good!
I have had my Dyson for almost a month now, and I still rate it #1.
Overstock, made it possible with their savings."
"I puchased my Dyson 6 months ago. At first, it was a great vacuum cleaner, but now, very disappointed. It does not pick up on my hardwood floors and the adjustment for floors and carpets does not work. Also the suction on my area rugs, it does not pick up at all. I contacted Dyson customer service and they referred me to a local dealer to service it which is still under warranty. They NEVER faxed over the orders to the dealer so I had to pay out of pocket. DO NOT BUY DYSON!!"
