"I got 1 of these bulbs to put in a desk/reading lamp. I liked it a lot so I got a dozen more for various room in my home. What is it not to like in this bulb? Instart on, bright enough for my applications (if you need brighter, look at the 60W equivalent) only uses 8watts if power. I actually like the 3000K color temperature. It is still warm, unlike the 2700K which always looked too yellow and not bright enough ..." Read Full Review

"I bought three of these and replaced some existing incandescents in my livingroom. The light quality is good, far better than CFL and nearly on par with the halogens I replaced. The color is slightly different than the Philips LED bulbs I already have, it is a tad more yellow and honestly closer to the color of real halogen. The one major gripe I have, though, is that the light output oscillates with the AC circ..." Read Full Review
"I have been looking for an LED general purpose light bulb that has enough lumens to actually light up a room and that doesn't cost $30.00 to $40.00 and well, here it is! We tried this bulb in several applications and it seems to be best (and brightest) when it is pointing directly down as in a basement or garage ceiling light. It is also really good in our large reading/desk lamp. In a table lamp (where the bulb points upward) it lights up the ceiling more than the rest of the room. This isn't it's best use. The bottom line is the light is somewhat directional. It isn't as directional as a spot light but it is more directional than a CFL or standard incandescent bulb."
"This is a great early-generation consumer-grade LED bulb. I purchased 2 to test out in comparison to the CFLs I currently buy, and they came through with flying colors. The acquisition cost is still too high for me to replace all my CFLs, but the light output beats comparable CFLs and incandescents easily. This is rated as a 40w equivalent, but I would compare them to 60 or 100 watt bulbs in terms of visible light. I like the low cost to run, and that I don't have to wait for them to warm up. I look forward to the price of these coming down, as I really like everything except the purchase price."
"I am very picky about color temperature. As I've learned more about lighting, I've learned to appreciate the color temperatures a little above the old incandescent "warm white" (around 2700K). Under my kitchen counters our 4100K fluorescent tubes are actually a great color for tasks like preparing food. The look of the room degrades a bit though when you have 2700K lights in the ceiling and 4100K on the counter. The solution for me is to replace more of our incandescent bulbs with higher color temperature more efficient bulbs.
This particular A19 bulb is marked at a color temperature of 3032K.
I was worried that it might be too yellow or too dim, but at this point I can say it is neither. It compares very favorably in brightness to the 60 watt incandescent it has replaced. The color quality seems to be perfect for giving some life compared to bulbs that are starting to seem only appropriate for Thomas Edison's workshop. 3032K is a nice, warmbut not too warm color.
After trying one, it's time to head back to the Depot for more. Excellent for downward facing sockets due to less light being emitted towards it's base. Especially worth it's sub $20 price if you take into account future savings. I'd rate it 5 stars, but it might be unfair to future LED bulbs that come to market soon for less money and even better color rendition"
"I have been looking for LED bulbs for a number of years, and until I tried these, I was not happy with any of them because of their color variation, low output, and cost. Finally Home Depot has found a product worthy of a home "improvement" store. They are still a bit expensive, and aren't quite ready to be used all over my house, but they are perfect for some applications. We have a 2 story entry way with a 9 bulb lamp hanging from the ceiling. The incandescent bulbs burn out quite quickly (within a month or two), and it is a real pain to get the ladder out and climb up there to change the bulbs. I am so happy that now with these LED bulbs I may never have to go up there again, and they use a lot less power than the 40W incandescents. We are using these bulbs where ever there is a light that is difficult to replace (a lot of places in our house), or where the slightly colder color doesn't bother us. We don't use them for the vanity lights in the washroom, reading lights, or the stair lights in the entry way because we prefer a warmer color, but when warmer LEDs become available, we will probably change them too."
"I bought this bulb to replace an incandescent bulb in a high ceiling above our whirlpool tub. It's down right scary what you have to do to reach the location and remove the waterproof cover, so I wanted a bulb that would last a lifetime.
I'm also a geek and wanted an excuse to try a LED bulb. This does the job nicely. The color temperature is not as warm as an incandescent and while the dimmer can dim downward to a low level it will eventually go off. Raising the dimmer slowly the lamp comes on at a higher level, about 40% up the dimmer's range.
I would have given it a higher rating but the packaging is ridiculously wasteful. The bulb is in a contour fitting plastic case suspended inside a larger plastic box with cardboard fillers at the top and bottom. Showy, but wasteful and using a lot of petroleum based plastic. I like the product and will use more of these in my home in the future, so I hope Ecosmart will "smarten up" with less wasteful packaging."
"LED bulbs as a superior option to CFLs have finally arrived. The one hitch is that you need to be sure you are using the correct bulb for the correct application. These bulbs are only 40w replacements, so you should not use them where extremely bright lighting is needed. They are perfect, however, for a hard-t-reach area that requires ample, but not very bright, light. You could put this bulb in place, and as long as it's not exposed to harsh conditions, never think about it again for 10+ years. For more typical home applications where 60w+ replacements are needed, this bulb isn't suitable. LED prices are falling rapidly, and the quality is getting better each year (the quality of this light is nearly as good as incandescent bulbs, whereas just a year ago the difference was notable), so I'm sure we'll be seeing $10 LED bulbs even better than this one within 2011."

The color is slightly different than the Philips LED bulbs I already have, it is a tad more yellow and honestly closer to the color of real halogen. The one major gripe I have, though, is that the light output oscillates with the AC circuit; I assume this is how they are dimmable. It's somewhat hard to notice with your eyes, but a video camera will make it obvious. I'd rather have continuous output than the ability to dim them, but that's just me. Thankfully the bulbs seem to use some kind of phosphor that keeps glowing after the bulb turns off -- this probably helps even out the AC oscillations a ton."
"BUY THIS LAMP... You will not be sorry. I just can't say enough good things about this EcoSmart lamp. It's actually brighter than they claim! (Looks more like 60 watts to me.) These EcoSmart lamps are the only brand that work on a dimmer. The actually DIM without flickering problems. The color is good. And unlike compact florescent they contain no mercury. Also unlike compact florescent... They LAST as long as they claim. I can't tell you how many "7 year" CF lamps I have had to replace after 1 year. LED's are reliable and they light up instantly to full brightness. (Even in cold weather.) And the best thing about this lamp is it's CHEAP for an LED. It might cost 3X more than a CF lamp... But it will last 20-30 years! (Real years! Not phony CF years.)"
"As a contractor focused on "green building," I find this to be a great product, especially for the price, when considering how expensive LED bulbs have been until now. Output perception is higher than the advertised 40-watt replacement, and is comparable to a 50-watt incandescent, and not much lower than a 60-watt. The tone is not as warm as some CFLs I've seen that were 2700k-2750k, but it is warm enough at 3000k. I plan to use these with Lutron Diva dimmers that are advertised as being compatible. If these bulbs dim as advertised, they're a definite home-run. A dimmable 60-watt equivalent is said to be coming out in the next few months. If you need more output, you might want to wait for that one."

It is still warm, unlike the 2700K which always looked too yellow and not bright enough for me. I hope they keep producing the 3000K temp bulbs. The only minor concern is that the light produced is a little directional - that is, the bulbs shoots light from the front and little from the sides, not much from the back. It is not a 360 degrees of light, but that is not a problem for my uses of the bulb. If you want 360 degrees of light, get the other Ecosmart A19 type of bulb as it is multi-directional."
