"This was my 4th or 5th attempt at finding an LED lightbulb to replace my halogen recessed lights. After a few LEDs that didn't work out, I had definitely eliminated any LEDs without some kind of a baffle. If you can see the LEDs, then they will be too bright and probably too much of a spotlight- this eliminates 90% of LEDs. Also, I found that to replace a 65w equivalent halogen R30, you need less than 650 lumens..." Read Full Review

"I returned these lights because the color temperature is way too warm for me. I want something closer to the Eco-Smart PAR-38 LED bulbs. Another downside (that would not prevent me from buying them if the color output was improved) is that you have to remove the CAN trim and detach the light bulb socket. This can be a real problem for some of my lights that I cant reach with my 12-foot ladder. With PAR-38 LED bu..." Read Full Review
"I've been buying assorted LED lamps for several years looking for a bright lamp with a warm color temperature (2700) that also has good color rendering. Most on the market are too cool or green, making your home look like an office and your skin tone close to a zombie. The prices have been awfully high too. I was considering ordering a Cree lamp similar to this one, but on line it was $149, a bit steep for "trying" out a new lamp. At $50 this is a good buy. This unit has come close to my quest but still doesn't quite replace the warm R20 incandescent over the kitchen table. The pattern is wide and bright. It is perfect for a utility/ laundry room and probably would be fine in any room if I weren't so color snobby. The unit dims well but unlike an incandescent that goes to a more comforting warmer tone when it dims, the color temp of this unit stays the same which seems cool. If you need good efficiency you can't beat this 10 watt marvel. It's bright with a wide even pattern. If you are installing new fixtures you can save the cost of a trim kit too so the price works out better. I spent big bucks for fancy recessed fixtures and trim kits to control lamp glare. I wish this lamp and "ballast" came without the trim piece so I could use them in my fixtures."
"I bought one of these on sale to try it out. When I got home I replaced a 22 watt compact florescent with this 10.5 watt LED lamp and was amazed by the light quality and brightness. I went back and bought 20 more. I've read that Cree has mixed red LED chips with the white ones to produce the warm color. They are dimmable with standard dimmers used for incandescence bulbs so you can use then wherever you like. When you dim them they produce less light but maintain the same color spectrum unlike incandescent lights that shift into the red when dimmed. This purchase made a lot of sense at the $19.94 sale price. I suspect (hope) the regular price will be less within a year or two as the incandescent light bulb ban approaches. Having dismantled one of these, I suspect that the 35,000 hour life time rating is due to the electrolytic capacitors on the circuit board. Pros: Long life, Hi Efficiency, no Mercury, and in compliance with standards for years 2013 and 2018. Cons: The list price is a little high
This is a great product. I hope this Cree light engine is available in other form factors soon."
"Without a doubt, my favorite purchase of at least the last year. This product finally makes the LED light ready for home use. Bought my first one yesterday, went back for 14 more today! Why? Light from these is bright warm white, not "LED Blue." Completely appropriate for home. The light spread below is nice and wide (I've read that the current LED bulbs are too focused and spot-like) They say they're equiv. to 65 watt incandescent; I'd peg these more like 85+. To use, you unscrew old bulb, remove 2-3 springs from your highhat fixture to remove the round trim that goes on the ceiling, undo a wingnut, and screw in this bulb-and-trim. One minute max, and it looks better than original. Doesn't work on "short can" fixtures, so check that your light fixture has at least 7.5" from surface of ceiling to top inside of fixture can. >>MUST-DO TIP: Apply in store for the Home Depot credit card, take 10% off your bulbs. At $45 (w/discount), these are amazing!! 5 stars and then some. Best thing in all of Home Depot."
"So far so good. I would recommend that everyone would purchase one and put it into an area that has your standard incandescent bulbs. I tested many of bulbs this way and found that few met my approval. Home Depot has been good about taking bulbs back if youre not completely satisfied. They understand that everyone is looking for the right color temperature and technology. The technology isnt quite there yet. Maybe that is why the price is a little expensive for this light. I thought by making an investment into one now I would know what works and what doesnt work by the time the price comes down. Like I said this is research and development for us home owners. My rating on this is about an 8-9 on a 10 scale and that is because there is nothing or nobody that can hit a ten. There is always room for improvement. I think this is a great product and worth trying. I am almost to the point of replacing all of my kitchen can lights. (10)"
"Now please understand I love this light and have bought two of them. However I need about 20 more, at least.
based on my math it will take about 5 years for these to actually pay for themselves. These things are pricy. At my current rate of 8.5 cents per kw/hr, even changing from my incandescent bulbs will take 5 years for the cost savings to actually begin to happen after accounting for the upfront cost of these things at $50.00 each.
I love them, want more, but need a contractor pack with a coupon to soften the blow!
my quick math below
8.5 cents per kw/hr
17 lights at 65 watts for 6 hours a day
1105 watts per hour
$16.80 month
17 lights at 10.5 watts for 6 hours a day
$2.7 month
So I could save about 15 bucks a month after swapping them all out and really it calculates out to 4.7 years but you get my point. I am all for saving electricity but there does not seem to be the added savings here from a cost standpoint."
"The light from these is great and (at least to my eyes) just as good as the Cree LR-6 which costs twice as much. We have been running a test side-by-side for the past two months with a 65 watt incandescent and a CFL. This is instant-on just like the incandescent (and unlike the CFL) and the light quality is every bit as warm and bright as the old incandescent. We have now bought 100+ to outfit our new construction. They are not as expensive as they seem when you realize that by putting these in from the start means you do not need to buy a trim kit or a light bulb for your recessed lights (which saves you around $10 - $12 a can). At 1/6 the energy of an incandescent, the reduced heat that will save on A/C, and with a 15 year+ life, these will easily pay for themselves several times over. Kudos to HD for bringing the high quality Cree lights at a reasonable price."
"Unlike the compact fluorescent lamps they replaced, the EcoSmart E26 fixtures I installed are instant-full-brightness, dim down smoothly from 100% to a faint glow, have no mercury, and are completely silent. They are VERY easy to install (it took me only one minute per fixture), and I estimate they will last 25 years. The neat white trim design is attractive, nicely capping off our recent kitchen remodel investment. The diffusers distribute the light very evenly including brightly lighting the kitchen cabinets from bottom to top with less glare. Be sure to print out the list of compatible dimmers to make sure your existing dimmer or the one you wish to buy has been tested with these lights (however I did not find a dimmer at Home Depot that was NOT on the list)."
"This Ecosmart LED bulb uses only 10.5 watts but has the same brightness as a 65 watt incandescent bulb. Yeah, I know, you've heard too many promises in the past about LED bulbs that either are way too dim or that emit a light that is so cool it's almost blue in color. I probably wouldn't have purchased this bulb if I hadn't seen a it demo'd alongside a 65 watt incandescent of the same type. The color of the light looked identical to the incandescent and the light was just as bright. Both bulbs had dimmers and this LED is fully dimmable. I have a couple of CFL dimmable bulbs made by other manufacturers in our home that only dim to about 20% of the normal light of the bulbs, but this LED dims just like an incandescent, and it uses about 85% less energy."
"I just purchased four of these new LED lights to replace the 75w bulbs that were in my 6 inch recessed lights. I was not sure how they were going to perform as I do not like the CFL's. I took them home and installed them. First the install was very simple and they look great. When I turned them on I was very suprised. The light from them are great and bright. I then tried the dimmer switch to see if I was going to have a problem dimming them. No problem at all. They dim down very nice. I am very glad I took the chance and spent the money on thes lights. I am going back tomorrow to pick up six more. Can't wait to see a savings on my electric bill."

If you can see the LEDs, then they will be too bright and probably too much of a spotlight- this eliminates 90% of LEDs. Also, I found that to replace a 65w equivalent halogen R30, you need less than 650 lumens and 2700K color. Higher color or lumens results in too bright or too glaring light. This unit, which includes the bulb and enclosure, produces nearly identical light as the halogen it replaced, which is what I was looking for. I use dimmers on all my recessed lighting, so I needed dimmable bulbs as well, which these are. I wasn't really looking for new enclosures, but having the bulb hidden by the baffle I think makes for a more finished look, while eliminating the spotlight or glare. I will be using these to replace all my halogen recessed bulbs as they fail. Now, let's hope they last as long as advertised."
