"I am a scrapbooker and I love the borderless 12x12 prints. They are perfect. I just print add a little embellishment and insert in my album. It's so easy and looks great. Plus when my cousin had her baby we blew up large photos (8.5x11) and printed on glossy and the look as if they was professional. I love the quality. "After two years this big piece of trash quit making prints that were even good enough for a personal shopping list. My local Mac User Group members have been complaining that if you don't use an Epson nearly every day the ink jets clog. I bought the clunker because it printed on CDs, but if it won't print on anything, it won't print on CDs...." Read Full Review

The only down side I have seen so far is the cost of ink. I use alot. In fact, I have already had to refill my pink and black and I have only had the printer for 2 months."

"I had no intention of buying a new printer until I saw this one on sale in the store and was impressed by the fact that it uses 6 different ink color and the 13X19" print size. I had no problems setting it up and even when I got a new Vista laptop that at first wouldn't connect, the printer software sent me straight to the Epson software download page where I downloaded the appropriate install and it works perfectly.I'm an artist and sell my work on [...]and at conventions and this printer prints my arts so crisp, clear, colorful and accurately to the original. Even my father, the #1 critic to arts and prints, was incredibly impressed. This printer has actually saved me money since now I don't have to pay a printing company their incredibly high fees. The inks however do run out fast mainly since they're smaller than the 3 color cartridges but you also only have to replace the individual color that runs out (this printer shows you it's ink levels clearly and tells you when one needs replacing) rather than having to waste throwing out the larger cartridge just because you run out of cyan. The inks still go a long way...having printed 20 13X19 colored pieces on matte paper plus some printing of 8X11" photos it was only then that I needed to replace 4 inks out of the 6 and since the printer software warned me which color was empty, I didn't waste any expensive paper. So all in all, this printer gets 5 Stars from me."

"As a graphic designer, I must present the best possible rendering to my clients.
The rendering of the Epson line of printers is upbeatable!
Ink is a bit on the pricey side, but when the job needs to be done right, first time and everytime, it is nice to have the epson to turn to."

"I use this printer as a proof for large computer generated fine art that I will send out for printing on archival paper to be shown in museums and galleries and also use it for portfolio prints that fit within the 13"x 19"format as well as prints that are sold to individuals.
As much as I liked the preceding model, I find this model 1400 has many aspects that make it even better"
Pros:
"I bought this printer to replace an Epson 880 (which in itself is a very good machine). The 1400 is definately a step above when it comes to sharpness. I can see the raster lines on an 880 print with a 6X loop, and see nothing but smooth tonality on a 1400 print. The 1400 is also quiter and faster. I haven't made use of the larger print size (8.5 x 11 vs. 13 x 17 on the 1400) yet, but I'm sure I soon will.
A note about paper - the Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy is producing very acceptable images that are definitely "photo quality." Although that term has lost its meaning over the last few years as a result of the advances in digital photography and printing. I wouldn't use a lesser paper for my images. I haven't found a cheaper substitute (yet), but I would be open to a comparison to save money.
A note about ink - I bought some third party ink for my 880 and printed my son's wedding pictures with it. The results were pretty good, but BEWARE, the yellow ink faded in a few months and the prints that were on display in my house and my son's house were faded to blue dramatically. That prompted me to buy the 1400 with the Claria Hi-Definition Inks. They are supposed to last for 98 years without fading (50 is good enough for me).
The ink consumption on the 1400 is about the same as the 880. Then there's the rub - the 880 uses a tri-color cartridge of CMY with about 12 ml. of each color. The 1400 has 5 color cartridges (and black makes total of 6)with 11 ml. of ink in each. I don't know how Epson justified the smaller ink volumes in a larger format printer?
Although I have had a negative experience with third party inks on the 880, I am still going to look for a cheaper source of inks for the 1400. Spending $120 for an ink set does not fit my budget. If this cost is not an issue for you, by all means stick to Epson inks. It's safer.
By the way, the Epson 1400 ink cartridges each have a small circuit board on them. This is, according to Epson, to better monitor the ink usage and allow for reinsertion if removed before it's empty. I find it easier to believe that the inclusion of these circuit boards is to make it difficult to use generic ink cartridges or refill the Epson cartridges with generic ink. I am going to purchase a set of third party inks (selling at half the price of the Epson inks) soon. I am interested to see how the third party ink cartridges handle the circuit board interface, and how the inks hold up against fading.
Also, I got the 1400 at a very good price because it is discontinued by Epson. I wold expect that any newer model of similar or better specs would produce excellent results as well. There are 2 "higher quality" ink sets available for some of the high end printers which, I'm sure, will produce top notch results.
No other issues! I've been printing photographs for over 50 years now. I feel comfortable stating that Epson knows how to make great printers."

Cons:
"Beautiful prints. Some prints do require multiple print outs and color adjustments to get the appropriate outcome despite the image being perfect on photoshop. But I am still learning the device!"
Pros:
Cons:
"I exhibit and sell my wildlife photography, and so the prints MUST be perfect. The Epson Photo 1400 printer does an excellent job, as long as I use a tip I read on three other reviewer's reports on different websites. If I let the printer choose the colors, or check the 'photo enhance' button in printing preferences, the color balance makes me wince, as it tends towards green. Similar issues happen when printing from PhotoScape (tens towards magenta) and other photo editing software, EXCEPT: PhotoShop. I make sure that I print from PhotoShop and click the "let PhotoShop determine the colors" option. Perfect every time.
Ink yields are OK. Not terrible and not stellar. In printing a mixed lot of 8x10, 12x16, 11x14, and a few odd sizes to fit specific frames, I'm averaging about 33 prints yield. Factoring the paper and ink, I'm averaging about 5.35 per print, which is still a significant savings over sending out to a photo lab to print. And this way I have complete control over the paper quality used and the color/light balance. Totally worth it.
Overall, for the price of this printer, the fact that it prints up to 13x19, making it a rare circumstance that I send out work to photo lab these days, and the convenience and control of printing my own, I am very happy with this printer."

Cons:
"I used it to print 19 calendars; that's 13 pages of Epson Premium Presentation Paper for a total of 247 prints. With borderless cover and inch or so border for the monthly photos, I went through 14 or so ink cartridges. The best price I can find on Epson 79 ink is from B&H at [$] per cartridge with shipping. The price on [...] seems to fluctuate, I got them for $17.44 a piece there, but now they cost more than B&H. From [...]they are $20.99 + tax. I got one with a $10 off coupon from there. All-in-all it cost $250 for ink to do the calendars. I've already exceeded what I paid for the printer. The prints look great (although I had a banding issue with the blue sky in one print). I suspect I would use less ink if I printed on glossy paper. One problem I had was that I could only load one piece of presentation paper at a time because it would pull in more than one page at a time and ruin both while wasting ink. This meant sitting at my computer waiting to feed in each page. This took about 20 minutes per picture. So the the printer is slow as well. Overall I'm satisfied."
Pros:
Cons:
"I replaced all 6 cartridges after 25 prints, one after the next was running out very fast. I had all new cartridges in the printer and didn't use the it for one month. I go to use it and nothing prints out. I use the drivers to clean the print heads and get the message "cannot clean print heads, replace cartridges" I sent an email to Epson Customer Support letting them know my problem and they send me an email back saying "if the red light is blinking, replace cartridges" I told them the cartridges were new! I sent them another email with the same explination, telling them the cartridges were new a month ago and that the ink costs too much to dry out after a month. I asked them for coupons for new ink and the only answer they gave me is "I'm sorry, we do not have coupons for our ink" and that was the end of their email. Customer service at Epson SUCKS!!! BUYER BEWARE!! DO NOT BUY EPSON!! BUY HP, KODAK OR CANON!! I have always liked epson printers, but this is my last one!
Mike"
