"I bought this printer after reading reviews, I had owned a Cannon wide format before ,it had great colors and was much more reliable than this one has been. "Makes beautiful prints, I love this printer! The quality is amazing, even when viewed under an 8x loupe! I've used it with Matte, Luster, and Glossy paper and the results are striking on all! Definitely download the ICC profiles for the paper you are using, it makes a difference.
My only complaint: It has the ability to print up to 13 x 44 inches, but uses the same size ink cartridge as most letter-size printers... If they can make a large capacity ink cartridge, I would definitely buy it. I'm not really sure why they would even design it this way..."

"I travel a couple of times a year, usually once to a popular destination (Europe) and once to an exotic place (India, Cambodia). I take a lot of pictures. The Epson R1900 produces photos that are at least as good as what I'd get from a professional lab. Its main disadvantage is relatively short-lived and rather expensive ink cartridges. After just 100 4x6 photos, most of the cartridges were nearing empty."

"As a recent photo school grad I have made hundreds of prints on various professional printers... I have to say that the prints from my new R1900 are the best I have ever made. The colors, gradations and fine details in the prints are rendered perfectly. The gloss optimizer coat gives rich glossy prints that look like traditional photo lab prints. The printer features automatic matte black ink switching which means I can make quality prints on any kinda of media...even CD's! And It's fast. Basically if you want to make exquisite glossy prints as large as 13x19 inches you will be thrilled with this printer."

If and when I get money up for a new one, it probably be the HP or, if Cannon comes up with one that does Panoramas a Cannon."

"I saw the one-star review--and he must have gotten a lemon. I've owned 6 or 7 Epson printers and the quality has been excellent. The R1900 is no exception--however it's not that much better than EPSON's much older Photo 1280 printer, which is also excellent and uses cheaper ink. The cost of Epson ink is the real negative here. Secondly, Epson has not yet figured out how to design a fail-safe way of printing disks. The disk printer is always fussy. Based on my experience, you should expect this product to fail in 1-2 years, even with light use. Epson has the image thing down pat, but not reliability. For the price and quality, it's a nice printer."

The user manual ain't got nothing on this review.
"I'm a serious developing photo hobbyist. The Epson R1900 is a big step up from my all-in-one office printer (an Epson CX7800). It is important to me that the R1900 has 8 ink cartridges for my attempts to work for quality color, a 13" wide print format for gallery sized prints yet a relatively low price.
In some of the reviews I have read about this printer, the cost of ink for the printer is offered as a potentially negative factor. However, I think that those who wrote those comments don't realize that with digital photography high costs for ink, as well as for quality paper are a fact of life. The ink and paper costs with the R1900 are nearly competitive with the costs one experiences when sending their works to a good print shop on the web.
If one intends to take photography seriously, it is a must to get the printing right! Yes, I know there is a web/email route for photo sharing, but printing brings a certain sense of commitment and pride to the photographic experience that is not possible with screen media.
I personally needed to go through the learning curve of how to translate screen quality to print quality. The R1900 is a great printer for a developing photographer who wants to learn about color profiles, paper profiles and calibrating a monitor.
"Accurate Color" is a feature of this printer, but at my level of experience, it takes a lot of learning to match the printer to the monitor!
I do think that this printer uses a lot of ink, and ink replacement seems pricey, but all ink jet printers use a lot of ink for printing large sized prints. And I have yet to find any high quality ink to be low cost!
I stated above, the costs of printing at home is close to what's available from the online print houses. In some sense, I doubt home costs can ever be equal to the print shops, but you have to get the file right before you send it in, and when you're interested in producing a match with with what you see on the monitor, only a home printer can provide the necessary iterative experience.
I'm please that I bought the Epson R1900 to get me through the learning curve."
Pros:
"Having a large format 17" Canon printer die on me, I was looking for a replacement. I didn't want to invest a lot of money up front, and didn't want to buy big ink cartridges anymore (having lost hundreds of $ of ink when the Canon printer died), I found the R1900 fit the bill for me. Didn't want to have to change ink for matte/glossy photos, which is a nice feature of this printer. While it does use the ink rather quickly, I'm not doing high volume of printing anymore, so it's nice not having to pay for big ink cartridges. One of my old Canon (iPF5000) cartridges cost well over 1/2 of a complete set of the R1900 cartridges. The first set has not lasted very long though, so I anticipate paying more for ink over all. However, the low cost of the printer itself (especially with the current rebate) makes this an excellent choice for someone wanting professional quality prints on a limited basis without a large investment up front. As a professional photographer, I can't sell 'dye' based inks, they must be 'pigment' inks which this printer is. It's the least expensive printer on the market currently that I know of that uses these inks. The color and print quality is superb (as is the case normally with Epson). Prints are on the dark side, but I've adjusted the workflow to compensate. The unit seems solid, fairly good speed (I've seen faster printers, but not ones with this high of print quality). Had one error, called Epson and they had me disconnect from the computer and restart the printer. That worked and haven't had problem since, although I'm only a couple weeks into this printer so time will tell on how trouble free it will be. I've had an R800 for over 5 years that has worked trouble free, so I'm confident in this printer."

"I needed a printer that would go large enough to produce the 12 x 12 scrapbook pages for my wife and meet my own needs of printing standard size prints from 4x6 to 8.5x11, labels and printable CDs.
I have found the printer and I need to look no further!
The Epson Stylus PHOTO R1900 answers all of my needs and goes to an even larger size of 13x19 that I look forward to exploring.
I am very happy with the user interface and found it easy to setup, install drivers, and use the provided software. It was a simple matter of installing the driver CD, following the on-screen instructions, attaching the printer via USB, and it was ready to print. The driver software interfaces seamlessly with other applications on my computer such as word processing and scrapbooking software, and it proves easy to change print settings in the print dialogue.
The Print CD software was simple to work with and it took me only about 10 minutes to start it up, import graphics, and print good quality directly to a printable CD instead of using a “stick-on” label.
The printer produces photos and pages with vibrant color. Even without calibration, the color closely matches what is on the screen. I am amazed that it takes less than 2 minutes to print out a full color 8.5 x 11 page. I have used both store brand and Epson papers to print and found that the Epson paper by far gives me the best print quality.
The printer is a bit bulky and doesn't fit on an average sized computer desk, but the print quality is well worth the size.
All in all, I give the Epson Stylus PHOTO R1900 a 5 out of 5 rating. I think it is an excellent printer for the serious hobbyist who requires more than just standard color photo printing from their personal printer."
Pros:
Cons:
"While this is not a pro printer it is certainly capable of professional looking prints. The "pro" designation is reserved for CONTINUOUS printing which causes wear and tear. My previous printer was an Epson R1800. It served me well for three and a half years of really hard pro service. Anyone not satisfied with the R1900 has received a lemon (possibility with ANY brand) or, simply did not know how to properly set up the printer. If it was slow that would be due to computer, not printer. There is a forum for people that work in a well (best) known photo editing program. Five of those professional people have taken advantage of this sale. Every one of them gave rave reviews of the R1900."
