Consider another brand of vacuum

"THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING A SHARK. Their Customer Service and Technical Assistance Departments are the absolute pits. Following the purchase of a new Shark Navigator, I noted a constant whistling sound coming from the vacuum, a sound that was every bit as loud as the motor itself. I simply wanted to know if the sound was normal for this model or if it might suggest an air leak somewhere in the system. So over th..."  Read Full Review

I am a mother of 2 teenagers and 2 toodlers so, you can only imagine what my home looks like by the end of the day... It is also one of the quietest vacuum cleaners I've ever had... I can vacum my carpets after my kids go to bed at night and since I live in apartments my nieghbors can always hear when I am running my vacuum or my shamppoer.. They cannot hear me vacuum now!! The price was very affordable... I paid $20 more last year for my bissel vacumm cleaner than I paid for my shark.... Kmart is the only place that sells this particular vacuum, unless you go to the actual shark webpage and I still did not see it on there... I can also use this vacuum on my tile floors as well.... I am very pleased and excited about making this purchase... I have already told all my friends and family about it and I have given them all a demo.... It comes with a one-year warrenty... That is the only con to this vacuum cleaner... but most don't come with a warrenty anyway... at least not any I have purchased in the last 7 years..."

The right choice for my needs!

★★★★★
5.0

"I've had the Shark Navigator for about a month now and from the first time I used it I knew I made a good, well researched choice. My old Oreck had finally died and the difference between it and the Shark vacuum is like night and day--the little Shark has amazing suction power....no running it over and over the same spot trying to pick up pet hair. And pet hair is a constant in my home as I have 3 rescue dogs, one being a Golden Retriever so you know I vacuum everyday! Also, the attachment for upholstery is the best I've ever used, again, you might say this Shark vacuum really sucks! I find it easy to empty the dirt cup and it seems to have really cut down on the dust in my home, no doubt because it cleans my area rugs and bare floors so much better than the previous vac I had. While the Shark is heavier than my famous 8 lb. Oreck, it weighs much less than most of the other upright vacuums that I considered and I don't find it cumbersome to use. My house is fairly small and I find the floor power nozzle to be easy to manuver around my furniture, use on stairs, etc. where one with a wider path wouldn't work well. The extra long cord is so convenient, saves me having to stop and change recepticles. All in all, I feel very positive about choosing the Shark and think in my situation it was the perfect choice."

    Pros:

  • Easy to empty,
  • Easy to use,
  • Efficient,
  • Lightweight,
  • Long power cord,
  • Powerful/good suction

Lightweight Vac

★★★★★
5.0

"This is one of the few infromercial items I have purchased that actaully works! This vac is lighweight, perfect for my carpet, rugs and hardwood floors. I love the attachements for cleaning my stairs and sucking up dog hair. The really long cord lets me clean just about a whole level of my house. I have never owned a Dyson, but this is a fraction of the price and could not be happier with my pruchase."

Exactly what I was hoping for

★★★★★
5.0

"I was looking for a new vacuum to replace the Kenmore I had due to problems with the tools. I decided to try the Shark and haven't regretted it yet. The Kenmore had an indicator light which would be red when the carpet was dirty then go to orange then green when the carpet was "clean". I used the Kenmore on my bedroom carpet until it had a green light on the whole floor then I got out my Shark. I had to empty the dirt cup twice because of all the dirt the Shark got out after my Kenmore had given the green clean light. Pretty gross! I vacuumed all the floors and was amazed at how much dirt the Shark removed. I love it! I have two dogs which shed and love the fact that it picks up so much of the hair and dirt off the carpet and the hardwood.

No real complaints although I will say the vacuum feels a little cheap but it performs quite well so I can live with that.

Very glad I made the switch and the price is very reasonable."

Very good product.

★★★★☆
4.0

"This vacuum has excellent suction power and does a good job at keeping dust away from the filters. Let's just say I had to vacuum the same room three times to get up all of the stuff my other vacuum missed. Disappointments are the dust cup is very small, so you have to stop vacuuming and empty it out often. The turbo brush works really well on micro-suede and non-textured fabrics and chairs, but not so well on textured fabrics that tend to hold hair. And the super stretch hose isn't very long nor does it stretch all that much. The warranty is a 5 yr limited warranty which only cover defects, which is good but not great. Finally, the infomercials make it seem more lightweight then it is. But those are minor inconveniences when you think of the performance and price. A very good value I think."

Great Performance

★★★★★
5.0

"Similar to the previous reviewer, I have had mixed results with products I've seen advertised on TV. The quality and performance of this vacuum is simply awesome. I love the power head attachment to suck up dog hair off of my furniture. The long crevice tool is exactly what I need to suck up the dog hair in tight spaces. Plus, the suction power of the vacuum itself is wonderful on both carpets and bare floors. My wife loves it because it is lightweight enough to carry up and down the stairs."

As others have stated ...

★★★★★
5.0

"As others have stated this little vacuum is portable, highly maneuverable, does not lose suction. As someone that has kids, young cats and a puppy. This little powerhouse picks up all the kitty litter, picks up little torn pieces of paper & mystery chewed up bits. Picks up potting soil. First pass. There is no kick back spitting out back of vacuum when beater brush is going. Another plus it is small so very easy to store if you have next to no space. For me buying a vacuum is almost a yearly ritual. I do have a few others sears extended warranty is among one of the best. These are name brand vacuums too. But every single one of them blows dirt back. All of them while using in sunlight you can see a little bit of dust kicking out of them. This one you see no dust kicking out in sunlight. To me that tells me I am cleaning even the smallest particles. Another plus because it does a wonderful job cleaning, you spend less time cleaning. Although the first few times I did use it, I had to make many passes. After that cleaning time was cut. I am so glad I took the sales Lady & Gentleman's advice. Because when I asked what is the best unit they had. They steered me to this model even though I kept drifting to the more expensive model."

I did tons of research ...

★★★★★
5.0

"I did tons of research before buying, and I was ready to put down the $700 or more that seemed to be necessary to get a machine that would do the job for my wife and I. We have a hound, and she sheds short black hairs continuously all year long. They get everywhere, and on everything, and our poor little nieces and nephews who visit and crawl around on the floor look like ewoks when they leave because there is so much hair on the floor. We wanted a vacuum that would actually give us a fighting chance in the battle of pet hair.

The Shark Navigator is nothing short of AMAZING! We had a "pet hair" machine before, and the first time we ran the Shark (right after running the other vacuum) it picked up an absolutely insane amount of hair left by the other vacuum. The pick up power of this little machine is amazing, the brush is the most powerful I have ever seen, and the hand tool is fantastic on furniture, stairs, the pet bed, and any other place you can't use the main brush.

As an engineer who worked in the field of pneumatics, the principles of this machine make sense. Suction comes from creating a pressure drop, a pressure drop is created by drawing air out of a chamber and forcing the new air in from another path. The smaller you make the chamber, the more pressure drop you can create, therefore the more suction you create. Most vacs seem willing to sacrifice suction in the interest of capacity of the chamber, a convenience that most people don't realize will result in reduced suction. You can make the motor bigger, but then it becomes too heavy to be practical. Remember also as a household appliance, you are limited in how much power you can draw to the appliance before you start blowing 15amp breakers. So the choice is simple, suction or size. I think they made the right choice here.

Yes the collection chamber here is small, and needs to be emptied frequently, but that is presumably by design to give it the amazing sucking power. It's simple, just empty it out more often. The important thing to remember is that this machine is DOING ITS JOB picking up stuff, and filling that chamber frequently is proof. In my opinion the minor inconvenience of emptying the chamber more often is a small sacrifice for a machine that does what you want it to do. Same thing with the small brush head/cleaning path. The smaller you make the vacuum input, the more suction you get. Vacs that have wide cleaning paths lose pick up power and don't do as good of a job.

The extra set of filters is another nice attribute, so you can clean one set while the other ones are in service, which we do monthly as a matter of preventive maintenance.

Overall, the quality seems excellent so far, we will see how it stands the test of time.

So does this vac take a bit longer to use due to the increased number of times you need to empty it and the smaller cleaning path? Uup. Does this vac do a better job than any other vac I have seen, including ones over $1000? YUP!

A few drawbacks: The brush is so strong and fast if you run over the cord (or any cord on the ground for that matter) it WILL strip the plastic right off the cord, so be careful. Same goes for area rug edges, be careful with them or the brush will shred them to pieces. The handheld tool is equally powerful, so be wary of fringe, loose threads, and other things that can get caught, because they will be eaten.

The ultimate measure of success is me being able to walk around the floor with black socks on and see nary a stray pet hair from our beloved hound clinging to them making me look like a deranged hobbit.

This vacuum literally SUCKS - which is what you want!"

Frikkin love it!

★★★★★
5.0

"I absolutely love this vacuum. I had seen the infomercials and had my eye on it, but don't like to buy things off of tv. I need to read customer reviews, and see the product before I am willing to spend this much money.

Anyways, I love this vacuum. It is a little heavy, but for the type of vacuum? Not at all. For an upright bagless vacuum this one is much lighter than the rest, but doesn't fall over when you use the attachments like the super cheap ones can. The suction on this thing is amazing!! You don't have to keep going over the same spot on the floor. Once is enough. I love the long hose on it and the attachment to clean the carpet pushed up against the trim at the bottom of the wall. It also comes in handy to vacuum the corners of the ceiling when a spider decides to try to make a web. The second I see one? Bu bye! No more icky spider webs to have to climb up on a chair and deal w/! My carpet literally looks like new again. I had NO idea how much dirt my old vacuum was leaving behind.

I have a toddler and a husband, so needless to say? I have lots of messes to clean up! This vacuum does the trick w/out a doubt. My only real complaint is that it doesn't hold very much dirt and debris before you have to empty it, but in the scheme of things, that is a fine thing to deal w/ in trade for a fabulous vacuum. It is extremely easy to empty w/out getting your hands dirty, so one quick run to the trash can, and problem solved.

Also, this vacuum is SO easy to maneuver! You can do circles easily. Not stuck w/ back & forth movement.

Buy this vacuum! You'll love it."

    Pros:

  • And turning radius,
  • Attachments,
  • Suction,
  • Weight

    Cons:

  • The size of the dirt chamber

  • Efficient,
  • Lightweight,
