Works like a charm!

"I have a 1950's cape cod, with awning style windows and almost no insulation in the roof. Needless to say, it gets HOT. I needed a solution that could vent to my knee wall, and this was it - I bought it last summer, during the 10% off sale, and have never been so happy with a purchase. What's hot? Apparently this review. Makes you wonder what everyone keeps talking about...

Maybe I need to shop at a better store, that doesn't market any piece of junk that they can get cheap. Save yourself time & aggravation: don't buy this unit."

"I have this unit and works great. If your having drainage problems, your cap is off the drainage line in the rear. I've had no such problems, unit works great as promised."

"Yes, definitely not always hands free or maintenance free. If you have it though, there is valuable feeback on how to get the A/C back on track. As far as the dripping, see comments I have concerning this."

"I have this same unit and it works great. First off you have to have an portable vented properly. Secondly there is a condensation hose that needs to be hooked up to a pan or bucket for collecting the water. This is the same with all portable units. If the condensation hose was connected I do not believe his/her floor would have been wet. Crank out windows is difficult for any AC unit. First off if the windows are open and the ventilation of the hot air from the AC is not going outside it obviously would not cool down the way it is suppose too. Trust me it is a great unit if connected properly by following the directions in its entirety. I got mine for $300 and it was definitely worth it."

With my central air running, keeping the downstairs @ 72 degrees, my upstairs would be in the mid 80's. I needed a solution that could vent to my knee wall, and this was it - I bought it last summer, during the 10% off sale, and have never been so happy with a purchase.

When I go to bed at night, I turn the unit on while I am getting ready -- in the 15 minutes that it takes to do my nighttime rituals, it cools the room by about 5 degrees, and by the time I am ready to sleep, it is perfect --- takes about a half an hour to cool my 14 x 15 pitched roof room by 10 degrees.

I am thinking that perhaps the folks that had issues are dealing with a couple things --- this unit does require either the release of water (into a bucket - I've never had to do this, but it's in the manual) OR the addition of water to function. It's been a while since I installed it, but I remember something about adding water to the unit, and I know there is a drain hose if it is being used as a dehumidifier - I've not had to add or drain water from the unit after it's initial set up (and I check it regularly). The other issue might be with proper venting --- mine is vented thru a dryer-style vent hole cut in the knee wall, venting to attic space, completely evacuating that hot exhaust air out of the room. It works beautifully.

Oh - I use the auto setting - letting the unit decide thru the room temp how it should function and I've not had any issues with it not doing it's job.

It is a very heavy unit - about 80lbs, so you'll likely need help getting it upstairs. Once unpacked, it is on wheels, so it moves around as needed.

I highly recommend."

Good buy for the area I wanted to cool

★★★★☆
4.0

"It is used to cool a bedroom does a fairly good job.

I have noticed if you use the drain hose in the cooling mode using a container to collect water. It is easier on the air conditioner and compressor however you would have to monitor how fast the water fills the container. I bought a large water collection container for the ac.

Seems to cool only in an area such as a room will not cool an entire apartment. Just room by room basis. Easy to install may have to customize or modify some parts to work for the window you are using. Cooling a 160 sq ft room changed the temp about by about 11-15 degrees in about 2-3 hours (with the door open) also reduced the humidity in the room. Tomorrow will test again outside temp will be 88 f. I think the product will last long if proper maintenance if followed. (cleaning air filter and draining unit on schedule etc) If you have a room will high ceilings get a unit with more btu's then recommended for the room."

Doesn't cool very well.

★☆☆☆☆

"I bought this unit and was very disappointed. I used it for a room that is 12 x 14 (168 square feet). So a 10,000 BTU unit should have gotten this room ice cold. What a disappointment. The unit ran full time, and struggled just to keep the room at about 85 degrees, when the outside temp was about 92 degrees. I live in South Florida, and during this time of summer the outside temp is in the mid-90's, and humidity is high. This unit does not cool under those conditions. I guess if you live somewhere with lower outside tempatures and low humidity, then the unit probably works okay. But if you live in a high tempurature and high humidity area, then forget about buying this unit. Also, the unit is very loud, I can't imagine trying to sleep with the unit running, because of the noise level. Also, the single hose design is not any good by today's standards. Because it has to draw in air from the room to cool the condenser, then blows it out the window. The two hose units are much better, because it uses outside air to cool the condenser. I don't recommend this unit. Go with a different brand that is quiet and has dual hoses."

"I agree with others, this might work well with an 8x8 room. I actually just use this in a 20x26 room and the only good it does is to support my main A/C which can't keep up in the unusually hot summer we are having. It is working for me for that function."

"Sadly I agree with this review. I bought the top of the line model from Home Depot, price was not an object (at that time), I just wanted the best. It could not cool a 400F room by even one degree. I called customer service, which were very helpful at first - and then dropped off the horizon. I tried the experiment they suggested (run it overnight before the sun warmed up the room). I did that and it had not cooled the room the following morning. I moved it from the 400SF room that I had originally bought it for, to a 200 SF room. After 3 hours the room was not cool at all - although it did have an excellent fan. I called customer service again, no answer. I naively thought that I had bought one with a simple fault which could have been corrected, no, they just do not work. This was all very disappointing. It was also very heavy to lug around from room to room trying to find one small enough that it might have worked in.

Great for supplemental air conditioner

★★★★☆
4.0

"This is the second unit like this I have purchased. The first I purchased when I lived in south fla and used when the power went out during hurricane season "I operated via a portable generator". The unit worked great! The draw back was that you needed to empty the water collection pan. Now I live In atlanta and I purchsed a second unit as a supplemental ac unit for sleeping at night. I think it works GREAT. If you are using this as your sole AC unit for your small house or apartment or for a room larger than 15X20 than you will not be pleased with the results. It really is just for a room or to supplement your current a/c. I can see the draw back for those who like a unit that is quiet. This doesnt bother me since I like the fan nosie when I sleep. Also, the units now do not require a drain bucket, unless you use in "dry mode" I highly recommend this product, and you cannot beat the price!"

Everstar 10000 BTU

★★☆☆☆
2.0

"This was the first portable AC unit I've purchase, and sadly, it's horrible. I've had better 3000 BTU window mount units.

I tested this unit in a 100 sq. ft area, and it could barely get the temp below 85. The air coming out of it isn't even all that cool. I don't have any preference on the noise, but it does seem a bit loud. However, I hear air noise rather than compressor noise.

Lastly, this unit requires a drain hose or a catch bucket. The guy at HD told me it didn't. I get very frustrated with our local HD personnel as they don't seem to want to help any of the customers. This was yet another example of an inept employee giving out false information.

I'm returning this one, most likely for a Sharp."

All heated up

★★★★★
5.0

"I was a little skecthy about one of these portables, but i have to tell you, they are cheaper to run than regular ac. My light has dropped alot over last year. i have this same model and I am wanting another one. My house is not ise cold of coarse, but it does take the heat away. When I have it in just a room or two, when it does get really cold, just the way i like it. Overall, it does a really good job for what i need. I would like to have one or two for work but it is not big enough to kewl my shop. I think that this is a really thing, especially if you are trying to save money

stay out of the HEAT... Thumbs up ....and do not over work it...."

Don't Buy This!!!

★☆☆☆☆

"I bought this unit figuring it should easily cool my living room and kitchen in my apartment, an area of approximately 400 square feet. It doesn't even cool 200 square feet. It does a good job in my 10x11 bedroom. The only problem is that you can't stand to leave it running since it is extremely noisy. This unit sucks most of the cool air out of the room and out the window. It also suckswarm air through light switch and plugin covers or any other place you would never dream hot air would come through. I guess basically it just sucks."

Not Too Bad

★★★★☆
4.0

"I've always had window AC's, but my new house has all crank-out windows and exhaust ports for previous owner's portable units. I was frustrated by the paucity of reviews of portable AC's but the price was right on this 10000 BTU unit, and the heat wave was on, so I bought two. It cools my 265 sq ft living room fine, and more. The one in my 180 sq ft bedroom doesn't seem to cool as quickly for some unknown reason, but eventually does get the room cool. They're not super quiet (I don't hear my gf snore so much, though, so that's a good thing), and I don't think they are inherintly as efficient as window units, given that they sit in the room and generate heat that window units would put outside. I like the timer functions. You can direct the flow of air to some extent. It's not unattractive. They want you to drain it from the bottom drain plug every week, so plan on leaving it up on blocks or a platform and having a shallow bucket to drain 2-3 gallons of water into. There are other ways to drain it in the meantime, including a continuous drainage option, like into a floor drain or a bucket, but they want you to do it from the bottom drain plug weekly anyway, to avoid corrosion. If you live in a dry climate, like AZ, you can add some water to the unit, and that adds some humidity to the air. I had some questions about that and was amazed to find a human being at the other end of the phone line who answered my questions!! The unit was made in China, and the User Manual reflects either that or the dumbing down of America. It's confusing in spots but overall not too bad. I wish I had double hung windows, because the window units are so much cheaper, take up no floor space, and work better. If you're thinking of a portable unit, also consider a through-the-wall unit if you don't mind cutting a rectangular hole in your wall. I imagine they work better. Given what it is, I have no major complaints (yet), and would recommend this product. Have fun!"

"As the temperature hit 95 degrees on friday July 18th 2008, I found myself on the door step of Home Depot purchasing this air conditioner. I took it home with high hopes only to end up getting burned, like by a cheating spouse. This product was was incapable of cooling my 10x14 room, which is exactly 120 square feet. I'm very disappointed and hurt that home depot would sell a horrible product like this and allow it to take up floor space. I'm returning it saturday july 19th 2008."
