"I've been waiting for the right mitts for winter mountaineering and plowing snow with an open tractor on my long driveway during the winter, both of which require some (but not a lot) dexterity and insulation that can handle holding a cold ice axe or steering wheel. "Too bulky for backpacking or day hikes, even in coldest weather. After leather gripping surface absorbs water from melting ice and snow, handling an ice axe or other metal tools sucks heat from your hand faster than mittens or gloves made of synthetic materials.
