"I have always heard negative things about big-box store water softeners, but I think the quality has come a long way in the last decade. We have had this water softener for about 4 years, and we have not had a single problem yet. It consumes very little salt and does a great job. autoregen does not work
"I have the same problem as apple**: The automatic regeneration has failed more than once. And since I have a 40 gal hot water tank, when it fails it takes days to sense the failure and then days to recover to soft water again after I initiate a manual regen. Is this a design flaw?
