Call of Nothing 4 Modern Welfare!

by Nick X-PLAY Producer on Apr 09, 2008

★★☆☆☆

"I was really excited and eager to review this game, but it was not as superb as I had imagined. Not all AI/NPC (what ever you want to call them), were not as great as COD 2. Some graphics are so bad, I could make better graphics on Microsoft paint. One exceptional thing is the online multiplayer...."  Read Full Review

One of the Best Games of All Time

★★★★★
5.0

"It is not hyperbole when I say this is not only one of the best FPSs (First Person Shooters) of all time, but one of the best games ever! Mind-blowing realism, including sound, AI, and adherence to the laws of physics make this an instant classic. This game's story and characters will draw you in. While the campaign is short by today's gaming standards (12-16 hours of gameplay), the multiplayer online and the ever-frustrating, but wildly entertaining Veteran (hardest single-player difficulty) modes will add endless replay value. Nothing else out there can compare to Modern Warfare!"

    Pros:

  • Challenging,
  • Easy to learn,
  • Engaging story line,
  • Gameplay,
  • Good audio,
  • Graphics,
  • Multiplayer

A PS3 Must Buy!

★★★★★
5.0

"COD4 is the best game for the PS3 yet, and likely will be for some time to come, especially if you're a fan of the first-person-shooter genre. The diversity of this title is what makes it worth the buy (most PS3 games have been, in my opinion, rent only titles). The single player has a cinimatic story that keeps one engaged to the point of addiction. This is probably why COD4 has been dubbed too short by some reviewers. I recommend start playing through the campiegn at the second or third level of difficulty if you have some experience with shooters so that the game lasts longer. Though I haven't yet, I may play the single player game again just to experience some of the game play not featured in online play (gatling guns, air attacks, etc.).

Speaking of online, if the single player feels too short and doesn't completely suck you in, the addictive nature of the online competition certainly will (highspeed internet required!). First, let me say that I was addicted to Counter Strike while attending college and haven't found a similar experience since. Let me just say that COD4 is everything CS was and more. COD4 online has many different game types to choose from (with some unlocking as you gain experience points) that keep even the most ADHD players (such as myself) online for hours. And if that wasn't enough, Infinity Ward has added many levels of rank and other goodies to achieve/acquire as you gain experience points through killing other opponents and completing objectives.

You might have read that the leveling-up proccess in online play gives the begining COD4 Online players a tough disadvantage at the start. This is quite true, however, if your competitive spirit doesn't run out while learning the maps and innitial weaponry. you will soon be addicted and will find yourself completing outrageous challanges; falling down missile silos to your death, killing enemies while jumping, and even sneaking up and knifing your opponents while their not looking; all of which you'll endevor to grab experience points to gain that all important edge on your online cohorts.

And when you think you've reached the end, COD4 challanges you to start all over again in Prestige mode. This mode brings you back to square one, giving you the chance to experience it all again as the noob you were, without all the weapons and goodies that made you the online killing machine you thought you were. In this way COD4 challanges you to gain new perspective relying on nothing more than your tacticle know-how and quick reflexes gained while leveling-up the first time through. With 10 levels of Prestige to achieve, you'll have days of gameplay ahead of you. The only question is, do you have the time?"

The best shooter I've played on ps3

★★★★★
5.0

"Let me start by saying this game is awesome. By far, since I have had my ps3 this is the best game I have played. I love the realistic weapons effects and performance. For instance, the Javelin shoulder fire missile that is used to take out tanks on some levels. When fired the missile goes up and comes down on top of the target just as the real Javelin used by American armed forces would. Also the claymores have the ability to be activated by motion sensore or a remote you have. There is also a mini gun that doesn't shoot until the battery revs up the rotation of the barrels. The red dot optics are very nice because they provide fast high accuracy. There are a lot of weapons that you can use but you do not have the ability to select which weapon you want to use before each mission. That is one knock I have for this game. The ability for bullets to go through walls and other things that would ordinarly stop a real bullet is captured also. When clearing a building it is almost always good measure to put a couple of shots through the walls to make sure any enemy in the rooms don't get the drop on you. In a nutshell there was a lot of attention allocated to detail for the weapons used in the game. I love that.

The graphics are also very good. The graphics are smooth and without glitches. There is also a mission where you are a sniper in a guildy (I think I spelled that righ) suit and the graphics are exceptional. The graphics are still cartoon like but the added power of the ps3 high def capabilities make all movement fluent.

The missions provide any level of difficulty you are looking for. This is either through selecting the difficulty before starting a campaign or just through natural progression from mission to mission the game just gets more difficult. There are parts where stealth is required and parts where you are fighting as hard as you can for survival. Some levels have missions where you will need air support to keep the droves of enemy personel from overrunning your position. Air support comes by means of an attach helicopter or fighter plane. Their effects are realistic also as the helicopter can't sit there and attack a position all day and there is a limit to the number of passes the fighter plane can make. The helicopter has to go back for fuel and ammo and the fighter plane can only drop so much ordinance before it has to leave.

At the end of the day I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing shooters. This is must in your collection of games."

Call of Duty 4: Modern ...

★★★★★
5.0

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is truly amazing First Person Shooter. Pros: Modern Warfare has the most realistic graphics ever made for a game. It's very much like being inside a film. It is a visual feast. The sounds of wars are as real as if you are on the battlefield. The bad guys are smart and adjust as the situations change. The game has a great story with more than a few interesting characters. One of the most compelling aspects of the game is the accurate portrayal of the chaos of war. Confusion reigns as the enemy floods forward. What to do, where to go, when to stand and when to charge, are all choices that you make in the fluid situations of combat. The battles are long. The enemies just keep coming. Very, very cool. If you are a first timer in the wonderful world FPS's start out on the Recruit level. If you are an experienced gamer you will find the upper levels more than challenging. Multiplayer: Modern Warfare's multiplayer is amazing. This is THE best shooting multiplayer experience to be had on line. Many features and new maps add to the addiction. But, if you are a FNG, playing online in multiplayer can be a bit difficult to get the hang of. Be prepared to suffer some humiliation until you get your skill levels up. Hang in there. The Arcade Mode is an great additional (and mostly overlooked) feature. Here you play to rank yourself in the Modern Warfare universe across the planet. Allso, very cool. HIGH replay value. A whole lot of bang (pun intended) for your buck. Cons: Not many. The game is fairly short. The Veteran level is insanely difficult. The cheats available to the PC are not available on the 360. That's it. You will not be disappointed. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is great fun and an the most amazing gaming experience to date. Plus, it doesn't have the mindless violence of any of the Grand Theft Auto series. PS: The low star reviews are by young spoilers. They like "their game" best and feel it their "duty" to "shoot down" any other game that the gaming community thinks more of than "theirs." C of D 4 didn't get to be the 2007 Game of the Year (beating Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, BioShock and a host of others) by being anything less that near gaming perfection. As a grey gamer (been playing shooters for decades), I can say without hesitation that C of D 4 ranks 1st in it's class and takes a backseat to none."

Best 1st Person Shooter Ever ***********

★★★★★

"This game is smooth very responsive and easy to learn. It is the best call of duty yet. Leaps ahead of any other first person shooter game out. The only thing wrong which is minor is that online just drops you in, you don't choose what or where u want to go. This game will have the time flying, you might lose your girlfriend or boyfriend over it. I highly recommend this game. The online is bananas. You will love it................."

  • Cutting edge,
  • Good instructions,
  • Good value,
  • Graphics,

one of the best games i have played

★★★★★
5.0

"lets start by saying even though this is the game of year edition, which supposedly is supposed to have the new maps included, it doesnt, nor did i get a code to download the maps at no charge...so i do not know why they released this as the game of the year edition.

other than that i am not a big FPS fanatic. to be honest, i thought games like halo, medal of honor, and doom were stupid. i beat halo 1 on legendary, even though the last level was frustrating trying to beat the time limit and i had to keep at it to finally get it, and medal of honor series was ok, none of them kept my attention. the last shooter games i liked were goldeneye and perfect dark for N64. since then EA has butchered the 007 games and i wont even play them anymore.

Call of duty is differnt. there is alot in the game that keeps me hooked. i enjoy the single story player mode alot more than other games like halo. the multiplayer mode is where the game really standsout from the crowd.

online multiplayer mode has an experiance system in place to unlock new weopons, skills/perks which makes the game very addicting. it is fun to get experiance to unlock new items. you get experiance for killing other players, and doing various things that the game has predeifined (kill so many people with a particular weopon ect.

you also can unlock extra devices for your weopons like bayonets, sights/scopes among a few dozen other devices that improve certain weapon characteristics. this keeps the game very entertaining to gain experiance by completing certain objectives, or to do things a certain way you may not do otherwise.

I also picked up call of duty 5 2 days after i purchased this game since everyone said this game is better. i thouroghly enjoy both games and both have the same experiance system, though 5 has different ways to earn exp. i couldnt choose between either of them to say one is better. call of duty 4 is a modern day game, while call of duty 5 (world at war) takes place along world war 2 era. i think most people just prefer the modern day weopons compared to the COD 5 ones. i enjoy both games and rank them the same so if you are getting this game or love this game, consider getting call of duty 5 as well."

AMAZING!

"The story is awesome the online is awesome i had it for two weeks and just scratched the surface of the unlockables in online mode. the story is rewarding and nonlinear and if you unlock all the intelligence theres special exclusive content like cheat codes. the online play has ~55 different ranks and challenges, then you can go through prestige mode 11 times (more rewards and unlockables). the only downside is the fact that my game case closes weird and doesnt lock. i hope its just a defective case..."

Great Game Great Value [...]

★★★★★
5.0

"This is a great game for a ham-fisted guy like me who likes to play First-Person Shooters on occasion. Was able to keep moving smoothly through the game on Recruit level. The middle third is challenging but then the pace really picks up again. Very polished. Gripping story. Can't beat the price - I got two copies for the price of one. I never would have thought I'd be buying a War Game from Babies-r-Us!"

  • Challenging,
  • Easy to learn,
  • Easy to use,
